We finally have a bit of an idea of how Doom Eternal’s DLC will unfold. In a surprise trailer today, Bethesda announced that it will be following up id Software’s excellent sequel with The Ancient Gods, a two-part add-on that will bridge the gap between Doom 2016 and this year’s installment. Ever the marketing geniuses, Bethesda will be holding a full reveal for this first part on August 27, 2020, at Opening Night Live (which is a part of Gamescom)....

The theme of the past 24 hours has been release dates for big name games leaking thanks to retailers’ mistakes. We saw this with the Homefront: The Revolution release date that was leaked by Target, and the possible Mafia 3 release date leaked by numerous other retailers. Now it’s Doom’s turn. Of course, fans of the game should take this supposedly leaked release date with a grain of salt, as publisher Bethesda has yet to say anything official....

There’s this misconception within the Dragon Ball fandom that Goku is some kind of untouchable, invincible hero. You’ll often hear people complaining about how he always shows up to beat the main villain of every saga and that he takes time away from other characters. Bandai Namco made the most of today’s EVO Championship Series 2017 hype, revealing that the Dragon Ball FighterZ Closed Beta was coming soon. Electronic Arts made a recent change to its Origin online store and gaming service that displays users’ real names rather than pseudonyms. EA may have made its way back into the good graces of some more forgiving gamers recently thanks to the tremendous success of Apex Legends, but, in typical triple-A publisher fashion, they already seem to have found a way to mess that up. It certainly isn’t as large a scandal as something like the Star Wars Battlefront II loot box controversy of late 2017, but it could have them facing legal action all the same as the result of an unintentional and irresponsible data breach....

It’s no secret that EA intends to release a new Need for Speed game over the next twelve months — the company’s CEO confirmed these plans earlier this year. However, we now have a pretty good idea of where the next installment in the enduringly popular racing franchise will be set. This rollercoaster ride is starting to look a little scary. GameStop’s stock price has been on an extreme upward trajectory since last week and is showing no signs of stopping. The Elder Scrolls Online today went down for maintenance to clean up a few lingering bugs associated with the Blackwood Chapter. At the time of writing, Xbox megaservers are back online, while the PlayStation servers are still being worked on. Bethesda expects the PlayStation maintenance to wrap up at around 12:00PM EDT, so you shouldn’t have to wait much longer to get back into the action. Today’s ESO server maintenance doesn’t make any radical changes, although you should notice improved performance, as ZeniMax said it implemented a “number of crash fixes” and solved several other gameplay issues such as desyncs and item set effects resetting....

The midnight screening of Hideaki Anno’s Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time was originally slated to take place on January 23, 2021. However, Studio Khara has now pushed the film from that date due to new COVID-19 restrictions in Japan. Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 is the final entry in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy. The CG-animated film series retells Anno’s popular anime Neon Genesis Evangelion while changing elements of the story and characters....
