Dragon Quest XI was released to great acclaim in Japan on the 28th of July, 2017. On the day of its Japanese release, Yuji Horii (the creator of the series) announced that an English version of the game was being developed for an international release. It was revealed today that the release date for the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of Dragon Quest will be on September 4th, 2018. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is one of the most highly acclaimed games in the series, which is saying a lot, considering how popular the games are in Japan....

Ever since its announcement in May of last year, it has been an uphill battle for Microsoft’s Xbox One. At first, its ‘always on’ policy and confusing features deterred gamers whilst the console’s high price (due to the then-mandatory Kinect add-on) led many consumers to buy its cheaper competitor, the PS4, instead, helping Sony off to a massive head start in sales for the new generation of home consoles. After removing Kinect (possibly killing off the camera in the process) and lowering the RRP, the Xbox One is catching up - Especially so as recent holiday promotions and new Xbox One bundles have made the console even cheaper....

It’s almost like history repeats itself or something. In a press conference for its investors last night, Electronic Arts revealed that with the Codemasters acquisition soon to be finalized, it has begun plans for yearly racing titles between its various studios. While this might mean trade-offs between DiRT and Need for Speed, it could also see Codemasters taking the reins away from Criterion to produce each racing title under EA’s umbrella....

From Software’s upcoming title Elden Ring could potentially make an appearance next month in the form of an update on development. According to GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb in his weekly podcast, GamesBeat Decides, From Software could reveal more information on Elden Ring at some point in March. This information allegedly comes from a “combination of sources” and that these sources have given Grubb a “reason to be confident” of more Elden Ring news before the end of next month....

Google is giving you a good reason to check out Stadia this weekend, as The Elder Scrolls Online will be free to play from 7am PT on December 3 to 7am PT on December 9. You’ll need to be a Stadia Pro member to take advantage of the promotion, but a free one-month trial is currently available for the service. It looks like Ellen Page is gearing up to dive back into the realm of video games. The actor, along with Paris Berelc, has signed on to star in Buzzfeed Studios’ upcoming video game comedy 1Up. Written by Julia Yorks and directed by Kyle Newman. The film will focus on a female gamer, portrayed by Berelc, who leaves her college esports team due to the sexist behavior of her male teammates....

Paul W.S. Anderson’s Event Horizon has just arrived on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray commemorating its 25th anniversary. The fresh release of the film (in a nifty little steelbook with great cover art) has also given us a chance to take another look at a movie that is perhaps the very definition of unrealized potential. While the new Blu-ray also ports over all the bonus features from previous home video releases, including Andersen’s commentary, a five-part “making-of” documentary, and a few tantalizing bits of deleted footage, it does not feature the Holy Grail for Event Horizon fans: a long-rumored director’s cut of the 1997 film that, had it existed, would restore about half an hour of long-lost material that Anderson was forced to remove thanks to studio meddling and a disastrous test screening....

Ever Forward is the latest project from indie game developer Pathea Studio - the team that brought us the RPG and simulation game, My Time at Portia, which currently sits at a “Very Positive” user rating on Steam. Given the success of My Time at Portia, it would likely be very easy for Pathea Studio to stay within the realm of the crafting/farming sim and RPG genre, continuing to churn out similar content or even building out My Time at Portia more than they already have....

It seems like such a lifetime ago, but there was a point in Nintendo history where Fire Emblem simply wasn’t on the radar as far as western releases went. Not just that, Marth and Roy were almost cut out of Super Smash Bros. Melee’s western release altogether so not to confuse non-Japanese fans. Thankfully, Nintendo did not gut their game of content and the rest is history. While not every Fire Emblem game has been released in the west since Blazing Blade on the GBA (please localize New Mystery, Nintendo,) the franchise has been healthy for a good few years now....

One of the best and most buzzworthy games of 2011, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, demonstrated again that deep, open-world RPGs do not need a multiplayer component to earn love from fans and critics, or to score triple-digit hours of gameplay from players around the world. Despite the occasional rumor or desire from a segment of The Elder Scrolls fanbase regarding Skyrim potentially introducing multiplayer into Bethesda’s flagship franchise, like Oblivion, Morrowind, Daggerfall and Arena before it, Skyrim remained a solo adventure experience....
