It’s that wonderful time of year when game developers and publishers gear up for the busy holiday buying season by announcing and promoting their biggest upcoming titles of the year. It’s a time for celebration among gamers as long-awaited sequels and exciting new IPs are demoed and marketed on a daily basis. Unfortunately, there’s always at least one thing to dampen gamers’ spirits. In years past it’s been the long string of game delays or game-breaking bugs, like those that plagued last year’s biggest games....

Why do audiences flock to see certain movies? What is it that compels us to traipse down to the cinemas on a gloomy afternoon? Where do we find that key detail that makes us choose one film out of a dozen different options? These questions are a lot more than theoretical for Disney, as they found themselves in the uncomfortable position of defending themselves in a lawsuit over stolen motion capture technology used to make films worth billions of dollars....

Unlike most asymmetric multiplayer games in which one player takes control of a monster or vicious killer of some form, while other players control humans or foot-soldiers of a sort, Doom Eternal’s Battlemode will instead put the majority of players in the role of demons, while only one player controls the nearly-unstoppable Doom Slayer....

Secrets are part of Doom’s DNA. Ever since the first entry in the franchise, perceptive players could get a leg up by exploring levels to find hidden weapons and fun collectible items. Doom Eternal continues this trend, going so far as to add a hub area—The Fortress of Doom—that displays your collection of toys and music. While this game’s secrets are much easier to find this time around, there are still a few that elude most players....

Let’s go back in time to January of 2020, when the biggest news story of the time was the impending arrival of Doom Eternal and not a global pandemic that would go on to kill millions of people. Ah, simpler times. Back then, Doom Eternal creative director Hugo Martin went on Facebook to talk about some of Doom Eternal’s features. As noted by VGC, one of the questions involved microtransactions, to which Martin responded emphatically that Doom Eternal would have none....

A recent update to Dr. Disrespect’s Twitter profile may give a hint as to his future plans, as his bio now links to his YouTube channel rather than his Twitch account. Dr. Disrespect’s sudden permanent ban from Twitter has certainly been a hot topic of discussion amongst the gaming community, and his future remains very unclear. So far, Twitch has not told Dr. Disrespect or the public the actual reason for his ban, stating only that he violated their code of conduct in some way....

Phantasy Star Online 2 players will soon have a chance to dress like their favorite S.E.E.S, Investigation Team, or Phantom Thieves of Heart member, as the MMO is having a crossover event with the Persona series. In Phantasy Star Online 2, it’s possible for players to earn new items by using AC Scratch Tickets. These act in a similar way to the gacha mechanics in mobile titles, as players have a random chance of winning items by spending the tickets....

EA has laid off 350 of its employees this week. It has been highlighted that the timing of the decision is a little unfair considering that the GDC took place last week. On the surface, it would seem that the gaming industry is thriving right now, and in many ways it is. Various developers and titles are breaking records in terms of revenue. However, the industry is changing without a doubt and, if you’re not in keeping with those changes, you are at risk of falling behind....

Modiphius Entertainment recently announced the addition of two new complete miniature sets to its Call to Arms product line. The sets comprise new terrain packs for the Northern Settlement and the Ruined Monastery, with both sets constructed by tabletop gaming terrain makers Battle Systems. Both new sets are compatible for use with The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms Tabletop Miniatures Wargame, but of course could also be used for most any 28-35mm historical or fantasy tabletop gaming scenes....

When an early build of Gears of War 3 appeared online over this past week, many gamers began wondering how representative of the final product the file was and how Epic Games would respond to the leak. Thankfully, we didn’t need to wait too long as Epic has released an official statement that clears the air and reveals that the developer has put together plans to find those responsible. As one of the Xbox 360’s most anticipated (and few) exclusives of this year, Gears of War 3 had a ton riding on its success — making this leak all the more unfortunate....

Of all the MMOs out there, Eve Online is definitely the most involved and unique. In 2007, Azia Burgi began a player-led project to create a sort of graveyard and memorial for the many players who pass away in game, and now developer CCP Games has moved to make it a permanent addition to the game. Initially Azia based her design on a cathedral-like structure seen in Kor Azor. The player and some friends would venture out past low-security space and collect the corpses that remained from large battles, all to bring them back to the cemetery, even going as far as to provide an ongoing log of all the characters interred there....

The Assassin’s Creed games are one of the most popular modern game franchises, and the fandom just keeps increasing with every passing entry. The series formula has undergone several changes at this point, with recent entries being more about role-playing elements as opposed to the social stealth found in the early Assassin’s Creed games. It hasn’t been even a year since Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s release and the rumor mill has started to churn out rumors regarding the next entry in the series....

Despite its short time in the gaming scene, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout has already secured a number of cameos from some of gaming’s biggest names. Portal 2’s Peabody, Half-Life’s Gordon Freeman, Hotline Miami’s Chicken Costume, and Enter the Gungeon’s Bullet Kin have all made an appearance so far, with fans assuming many more recognizable faces are sure to follow. The first of Season 2’s crossover cameos is on its way, with Mediatonic revealing that Sega has teamed up with the studio to bring a Sonic the Hedgehog skin to Fall Guys....

Fall Guys, the newly released hit in the battle royale-like genre, is eager to get the ball rolling on collaborations with the official Twitter account retweeting fan-art, user-shared videos, and general suggestions from fans. One such tweet, suggesting Fortnite get into the mix, is gaining traction and even involved the Fall Guy’s Twitter retweeting and mentioning Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney. The Tweet, by user @adrotito, puts a Fall Guys bean character into costumes of the popular Fortnite llama and bear, with the Fall Guy’s Official Twitter retweeting and mentioning Fortnite’s official handle suggesting it’s time to talk business....

Pretty much anyone who’s a fan of the later non-isometric styled games in the Fallout franchise pretty much worships Obsidian, the developers behind Fallout: New Vegas and the wildly popular more recent release, The Outer Worlds. The game is known for being a lot weirder than most of its predecessors in various ways, including locations, characters, questlines, and weapons, essentially making it one of the most well-loved games in modern history by players who are in the know....

A YouTuber prank calls several people using sound clips from the Vault Tec Rep from Fallout 4 in an effort to sell vault access to unsuspecting people over the phone. Even before the bombs dropped in Fallout 4, it must have been pretty difficult for a Vault-Tec representative to make a living. They had to go door-to-door checking off details for the company, and as the Sole Survivor witnesses in the beginning of Fallout 4, they don’t even get access to the vault themselves when it really matters....

There is a common myth in the video game industry that it is impossible to really deliver on a good Superman game, due in-part to the notorious Superman 64. However, a solo developer is working to prove that theory wrong with a game called UNDEFEATED, which isn’t directly a Superman game but shares a number of features with the powerful hero. This is the debut title by the Japanese developer who goes by @UMA_Hero_16 on Twitter, and UNDEFEATED Games on Steam....

Far Cry 6 is in development and will take players to the fictional Caribbean island of Yara, ruled over by Anton Castillo. He is a new villain who will be played by Giancarlo Esposito, best known for Breaking Bad and his more recent role as Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian. While the Far Cry games have been well known for their strong villainous performances, there’s one aspect of the games that Far Cry 6 should return to that featured heavily in Far Cry 3....

Around midnight on April 10, FaZe clan member Devin Agony and his brother, fellow FaZe clan member Kieran, found themselves in a potentially life-threatening situation. Unknown assailants reportedly broke into their home in Ontario, Canada, firing a shotgun and attempting to break into Devin’s room. In his initial tweet about the incident, Devin asked for prayers for his brother Kieran and their roommate. Luckily, no one was hurt in the incident....

DIRT and Need for Speed are two of the biggest names in the racing genre. They both launched back in the 1990s and have each put out over a dozen titles since. Despite their surface similarities, Need for Speed has always been the more narrative-driven of the two, while Dirt titles tend to be closer to driving simulators. This may all be about to change with the upcoming release of Dirt 5....
