Epic Games is making its new partnership with Rocket League even sweeter for players using the game launcher. Right now, players have until October 23 to claim a free copy of Rocket League on the Epic Game Store, which will net them a $10 coupon. Rocket League just went free-to-play on several platforms earlier this week, and to celebrate the exciting news, Epic Games is rewarding anyone who claims a copy of the game with a coupon....

Epic’s trial against Apple has revealed that Epic Games wanted Xbox to remove Xbox Live requirements from free multiplayer titles as early as last year. According to Kotaku, an email from August 5th between Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney and Xbox Head Phil Spencer shows Sweeney attempting to convince Spencer to drop Xbox Live Gold requirements for free-to-play multiplayer games like Fortnite and Apex Legends. The email itself sounds very corporate but hints at the fact that the idea of subscription-free multiplayer was something Xbox had been considering for quite a while....

NIS America confirmed yesterday that Etrian Mystery Dungeon, a dungeon crawler spin-off to the Etrian Odyssey series, will be getting delisted from the European eShop next month. Set to leave on September 30, 2020, this is the second to last available way to get a digital copy. The American and Australian versions were removed earlier this year, but the game remains available for Japanese gamers. It may not be the biggest loss since physical copies still exist....

After a devastating mass layoff, Telltale Games has terminated at least one team in Telltale’s remaining crew. The original layoff consisted of over 200 people, none of which received any kind of compensation following their termination. There was no severance pay, and only about a week’s worth of health care. The news that more of Telltale’s staff had been laid off came from Rachel Noel, one of the people left on the so-called skeleton crew that made up Telltale’s staff after September’s layoffs....

A couple of days ago, the PlayStation 5 finally released to select territories, leading those lucky players who were able to get it to the next-generation of console gaming. As expected, the PS5’s launch day proved to be a success, given that most, if not all, retailers no longer have stocks of the PS5 at the moment. However, just as with any launch of a new product, it appears that several players are reporting problems with their consoles, which range from minor issues that can easily be addressed with a quick software update, and at least one major one that requires intervention from PlayStation Customer Support....

After months of waiting, Fallout 4 players using an Xbox One can finally install the full dialogue interface mod to experience a more traditional Bethesda experience. With the recent release of Fallout 4’s Far Harbor DLC, many gamers are turning to the Boston wasteland for another adventure. One of the best parts of the DLC expansion is that the game’s bare bones dialogue options have been beefed up to match the franchise’s usual branching decision trees....

SuperData, a video game market analysis company, announces in a report that Fallout 4 digital sales have exceeded well over $100 million in a short period of time. SuperData also revealed that Bethesda moved around 1.87 million digital units of Fallout 4 in three days, with 1.2 million of those units sold on the PC platform primarily through Steam. The remaining 600,000 or so copies were sold on either Xbox Live or PlayStation Network....

Despite the fact that Bethesda has stated that it can’t fix all of Fallout 76’s beta bugs by launch, the gaming giant appears to be giving it the good old college try. The result is a massive full download for the online-only multiplayer game that totals in at 96.6 GB, with a significant portion of that dedicated to combating the aforementioned bugs. The original file size, for comparison, is 45.04 GB, which is topped by the day one update....

Halo fans were delighted this week to find that the newly-revealed Xbox Series S contains a Master Chief Easter egg on its power supply. It’s a neat little nod to the series that’s become synonymous with the Xbox brand, but there is room for Microsoft to extend that to the outside of the console, as one fan mockup shows. As promised, Destiny’s developer Bungie today announced the road ahead for its sci-fi looter shooter, saying that Destiny will get one last live event called Age of Triumph, which will launch at the end of March. This is the live event that Bungie has referred to in the past as the “content update” that would come to the game this year. Bungie says Age of Triumph will close out Destiny before all focus shifts to Destiny 2, “intending for it to be a fun and memorable celebration that will bring the first major chapter of our Destiny adventures to a fitting close....

The recently released Fallout 4 DLC, Far Harbor, features a quest that bears a remarkable similarity to a Fallout: New Vegas mod called Autumn Leaves. The Far Harbor DLC for Fallout 4 received plenty of praise when it was released earlier this year, but now developer Bethesda is facing accusations of plagiarism. A quest included in the expansion called “Brain Dead” apparently bears some suspicious similarities to Autumn Leaves, a fan-made mod for New Vegas....

Yesterday, Blizzard officially confirmed that Overwatch hero 27 is Brigitte Lindholm, a support and tank character who also happens to be Torbjörn’s daughter. But while most Overwatch fans were delighted with the reveal of the character and are excited to get a chance to play as her, one game developer took to social media to raise questions about Brigitte’s design. On Twitter, Stew Chisam, the president of Hi-Rez Studios, the developer of Paladins: Champions of the Realm, highlighted the similarities between Brigitte and a Paladins character named Ash....

Reports indicate that Disney Infinity 3.0 is now the most popular toys-to-life video game, with its Star Wars content helping the game pull ahead of Skylanders. About five years ago, Toys for Bob introduced an innovative new concept to the gaming industry: the toys-to-life genre. Kicking off this ambitious new vision was Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, and it started a phenomenon that other developers soon tried to imitate. Until now, those efforts have failed to match the popularity of Skylanders, but after three entries in the franchise, Disney Infinity from Avalanche Software and Disney is now the most popular toys-to-life series....
