As I’ve said before, making great video game box art is an art. Just like making a movie poster, taking things like composition, readability, and visual excitement can make for a cover that no one can forget. It becomes iconic, like the Star Wars: A New Hope poster, or Jurassic Park. You can readily identify it, and essentially just fall in love with it. Unfortunately, in the early days of video games, and even now, creating a great cover seems like it was never a top priority....

In just a few painful weeks, Commander Shepard’s swan song will play out in gamers’ living rooms and bedrooms (in most cases, on a screen of some sort) throughout the world. Between full fledged installments of Mass Effect however, the lore of the series has been evolving across a string of four different novels: Mass Effect: Revelation, Mass Effect: Ascension, Mass Effect: Retribution, and most recently, Mass Effect: Deception. One thing we’ve been looking forward to most at E3 2017 is a new trailer for the highly-anticipated Far Cry 5 and now the time has finally arrived. After a range of small reveals in the weeks leading up to the yearly gaming event, Ubisoft dropped the most exciting footage yet as the company took to the stage for its E3 conference. The new Far Cry 5 gameplay trailer showed off some impressive-looking combat, as well as the cast of characters that players will be fighting alongside in their quest to liberate the town of Fall’s End from a fanatical cult....

Originally, fans of the franchise would have gotten their hands on Far Cry 6 in February 2021, but that has now been delayed. Ubisoft’s announcement cites production challenges related to COVID-19 as the reasoning, something the industry has been dealing with for months now, and it’s likely not the last game to be delayed. Unfortunately, Ubisoft did not specify how long Far Cry 6 was delayed, instead offering a tentative window between April 2021 and March 2022, a wide window just to likely cover all bases....

Detroit: Become Human, the cinematic narrative-driven adventure game where player choice greatly impacts the story, is easily one of the biggest PlayStation 4 exclusives due out this year. However, the studio behind the game has now found itself in the middle of controversy, as Quantic Dream studio head Guillaume de Fondaumier has been accused of sexual misconduct. At the Tokyo Games Show 2018, the Devil May Cry 5 development team at Capcom shed a lot more light on the upcoming action title including a brand new trailer featuring Dante gameplay and details about weapon changes. That’s not all though, as Capcom also disclosed some controversial information about the game’s business model. During a Devil May Cry 5 demo at TGS 2018, players discovered that the game’s Divinity Statue store allows them to spend real money on microtransactions that count towards character upgrades....

“The game was really designed from the get-go to be about [killing and looting],” Diablo designer David Brevik said in an interview with Kotaku, “Our intent wasn’t really to pry money from your wallet. The rivalry between the streaming platforms Twitch and Mixer has ended with the latter company being shut down so that Microsoft could partner with Facebook Gaming.
