The original DOOM broke a lot of barriers. Fully 3D visuals, moody atmosphere, and unprecedented levels of gore made the game an instant success. But that’s not all: the game was also a multiplayer pioneer. Heard of deathmatch? You have DOOM to thank. Obviously, multiplayer is going to be a huge part of Bethesda’s upcoming DOOM reboot - no modern day shooter would be complete without it, especially not the successor to one of the most influential games of all time - and the developer dropped a few details about the game’s upcoming multiplayer mode at its first-ever E3 press conference....

It seems that Pokémon Sword & Shield is losing features by the day. Not only will each game now only feature Pokémon that can be caught in the Galar region, but it won’t be possible to use Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves in Pokémon Sword & Shield. The changes to Pokémon Sword & Shield were confirmed during Nintendo’s Treehouse: Live presentation as part of E3 2019 (thanks, VG247), which will drastically change the competitive scene going forward....

Update: The Chocobo World minigame will not be included in the FFVIII remaster. Final Fantasy VIII is being remastered for modern systems, but there is still a lot we don’t know about the game. It’s presumed that Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will feature upscaled graphics that will make it easier to play the game on modern screens, but there has been no word on any additional features that the game might have....

At this year’s E3, we’ve seen that the industry at large is taking notice of the enormous success Blizzard has enjoyed thanks to its collectible card battler Hearthstone. Following the announcement of The Elder Scrolls Legends on Sunday, now EA has joined the party with Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. While Battlefront was the most attention grabbing piece of Star Wars content on show at EA’s conference, Galaxy of Heroes offers plenty to pique the interest of fans....

After a very rocky relationship in the past few years, EA Sports and Tiger Woods have decided to call it quits. Tiger Woods will no longer be the face of EA’s popular PGA Tour franchise. The publisher broke the news early Monday saying that the decision was “mutual” between both parties. They wished Woods — who has been seeking an elusive 15th major win for quite some time — well, and said the team has always been a fan of his....

The Xbox Games Showcase for the Xbox Series X on Thursday morning was filled with new game announcements. It was so packed, some announcements even came before the show during Geoff Keighley’s pre-show. The highlight had to be the reveal of Echo Generation, a voxel-based adventure game that seems strongly inspired by the Stranger Things television show. Echo Generation was revealed with a minute-long gameplay trailer. It featured the game’s protagonist, a young boy named Dylan who wields a hockey stick, exploring a gorgeous 80s voxel world and interacting with all manner of supernatural beings....

Elon Musk’s Twitter account has gotten him into trouble quite a few times in the past, as the outspoken billionaire has actually caused Tesla shares to drop because of some of his social media behavior. Musk has found himself in hot water on Twitter for a variety of reasons, but this latest controversy is one of the most bizarre by far. Musk, who is a gamer himself, shared some fan art of 2B from Nier: Automata on his Twitter account, but he failed to credit the original artist, Meli Magali....

Epic has announced Alan Wake and For Honor will be free to download on the Epic Games Store, beginning in August. Epic recently revealed it will be offering a free new game on its digital storefront every week for the remainder of 2019. However, this will only be the second time ever the company will be dropping two free games in a single week. You can download both titles from August 2 at 11 AM ET/8 AM PT through August 9 at 11 AM ET/8 AM PT, according to Epic Games’ Twitter account....

The Epic Games Store was launched half a year ago by Epic Games, the developer of the popular online shooter Fortnite. The store promised that unlike its chief competitor Steam, it would only take 12% profit from game developers, which is massively lower than the 30% cut that Valve earns via Steam. However, some PC players were not happy with Epic Games’ strategy of locking down exclusive games to grow its platform, a move that Epic CEO Tim Sweeney defended recently....

I’ve been spending some time with the $199 GTW 270 Hybrid earbuds from EPOS, formerly Sennheiser - the first Bluetooth earbuds created specifically for gaming. They’re as good as some over-ear headsets I’ve used. The earbuds are built around low-latency audio, achieved through a USB-C dongle. Once they’re in, there’s no perceptible lag. Playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, the audio performance fully pulls you into the world, with every gunshot echoing off canyon walls and around your actual skull....

What’s particularly interesting about Red Dead Redemption 2 is how long it takes to get to the bulk of the story. Unlike the first Red Dead Redemption where John Marston began the game with a clear goal, Arthur Morgan is just trying to get by and live under Dutch’s rule for the first half or so of RDR2’s narrative. It isn’t until around Chapter 4 where Red Dead Redemption 2 starts pushing its story forward....

Fall River, a four-part docuseries running on Epix, is structured like a rollercoaster. Every episode cranks up the suspense, building to a conclusion, and then drops the viewer into an emotional freefall. Almost 90 years after Lizzie Borden was acquitted of murder, Fall River, Massachusetts, hosted a second trial of the century. But this one was more like the witch hunts held in Salem, just over an hour’s drive away. Three women were killed in 1979, and the police and media blamed a devilish sect....

At E3 2018, Microsoft revealed that it was expanding its first-party studio roster, and a result, it appears that the company is reportedly close to acquiring Obsidian Entertainment, which is best known for titles such as Fallout: New Vegas, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and Pillars of Eternity. Despite the popularity of this developer, it fell into a financial crisis back in 2012 that led to Pillars of Eternity being a crowdfunded project....

One of the largest additions to Fallout 4 was settlement building. Players can take the assortment of junk they find in the wasteland and turn it into buildings, turrets, generators, and much more. Bethesda went as far as to make an entire faction in the story revolve around this mechanic. However, many players have a hard time getting into settlement building due to some unintuitive systems and features. Fortunately, the talented and passionate modding community of Fallout 4 has created some fantastic mods that make settlement building much more intuitive and enjoyable....

Much of Fallout 4’s upcoming DLC seems to focus on combat and action. Could Bethesda take an entirely different route with expansion packs for the post-apocalyptic RPG? Hot on the heels of the core game’s success, Bethesda is currently putting the finishing touches on downloadable content for Fallout 4. The post-apocalyptic RPG is due to receive at least three DLC packs over the course of its lifespan, and fans of the title are excited to see exactly what the developer brings to the table....

Next week’s ad for Target stores leaks early, revealing the sale price for Fallout 4’s Nuka Cola Quantum, as well as some additional Fallout-themed merchandise. The official Fallout Twitter feed officially announced real-life Nuka Cola Quantum a week ago as a partnership with Jones Soda Co. and Target stores. However, all three parties refrained from mentioning the price of the product, which has now been revealed in a leaked sales ad for Target....

Just as predicted, QuakeCon weekend has been full of juicy details about the nitty gritty systems at play in Fallout 76. In addition to explaining how the game’s Perk system runs, the Fallout 76 panel also answered some of the biggest questions about the game’s PvP system. Bethesda Games Studio director Todd Howard started out by explaining that Fallout 76 is built around both PvE and PvP. A main goal of the design team was to find a way to include the element of danger that comes along with PvP, without the usual griefing....

A future Metal Gear Solid movie is in the works, and they’ve chosen Star Wars actor Oscar Isaac as its lead. While production seems to be a long way off, for now, the fact that they’ve chosen their leading man who himself is a fan of the franchise is a huge leap forward. It’s unclear whether or not the movie will try and follow the plot of Metal Gear Solid on the PS1, original Metal Gear games on the SNES, or a combination of several entries in the series, but it does have fans speculating on who can play their favorite characters on the big screen....
