Detective Pikachu still has fans discovering new things about it a year after its release — no doubt because most consider it to be the film that broke the “videogame movie” curse. In this latest instance, someone has discovered an easter egg within the movie that references a core mechanic found in the Pokemon games. A film fan going by the handle “Movie Details” on Twitter was the one to point this reference out to others....

Today, the video game publisher and developer Ubisoft officially announced its decision to bring the first-person shooter Far Cry 3 to current generation systems, with the title set to receive a “Classic Edition” for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. While the game’s Classic Edition will initially be included for free in Far Cry 5’s Season Pass, it looks as if the title will eventually become available as a standalone item for consoles at some point later this year....

Somehow, Nintendo managed to pack more into its 40-minute Direct presentation than nearly every other game publisher at E3 2021. Along with major new game announcements including a brand new 2D Metroid game and a release date for Guardians of the Galaxy on Switch, Nintendo is also bringing back one of the best horror franchises of all time. Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will make the jump from Wii U to the Nintendo Switch later this year....

Destiny has always been good about providing a lot of PvE events to complete on a weekly basis. Players have formed weekly habits of tackling the Nightfall and Heroic Strikes as well as the latest Raid. But for a long time, players have been asking for the competitive multiplayer side of the game to receive its own weekly rituals. In the last expansion, House of Wolves, Bungie took a step towards that by adding Trials of Osiris, an intense 3v3, one-life-to-live Elimination mode that challenged players to win nine games in a row....

Bungie is acquiring the rights to self-publish Destiny from Activision, the company revealed in a surprise announcement Thursday afternoon. The two companies are currently in the “early stages” of transferring Destiny publishing rights from Activision to Bungie, a process likely complicated by the continued content release plans for Destiny 2. Both companies are said to be “committed to making the handoff as seamless as possible.” No immediate changes are expected to impact Destiny 2’s availability or previously announced roadmap....

The first PC patch for Eidos Montreal’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is out, fixing some bugs and crashes and recommending players turn down their settings. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has only just launched, and boy has the reception so far been tumultuous - though very positive, as well. PC players of the sci-fi RPG in particular seem to have plenty of concerns to take up with developer Eidos Montreal. Whether it be issues with the game’s microtransactions, Season Pass content, or general PC problems, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided players are certainly making their voices heard....

Yesterday at the 2021 Television Critics Association summer press tour, journalists were given a lot of new information about Showtime’s upcoming Dexter revival, Dexter: New Blood. The continuation of one of Showtime’s most popular dramas is one of the most anticipated series of the year, but so far, few details have been revealed. That all changed when showrunner Clyde Phillips and stars Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter started to spill their guts, metaphorically speaking, about what fans and skeptics alike can expect from the forthcoming miniseries....

The conversation surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 has grown increasingly sour as of late. While it initially looked like it was going to live up to the hype with a slate of glowing reviews for the PC version, the console ports have been a disaster on par with No Man’s Sky or Fallout 76. It’s gotten so bad that the game has been pulled from the Playstation Store and full refunds are being offered....

Marvel kicked off its line of MCU television titles with WandaVision on Disney Plus, and it was a resounding success. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was a decent follow-up, but it didn’t quite match the poignancy and grandeur that Wanda Maximoff’s story featured. The final episode was virtually unforgettable, but many fans expected a cameo from Doctor Strange. The Sorcerer Supreme was in fact meant to show up in the finale, but Kevin Feige has explained why this didn’t pan out....

It looks like our European friends couldn’t wait to get their hands on Doom Eternal. Apart from just being a plain awesome game and a successful follow-up to the 2016 reboot, Bethesda has announced that the UK launch of the hotly anticipated sequel has opened to the best numbers in the series’ history. Everyone just wants to go to hell and back. This news is surprising because physical sales for Eternal were down by roughly 33% from its predecessor....

DOTA is currently in safe hands with Valve at the helm, with the hugely popular MOBA evolving into other forms of media to showcase its lore and characters. DOTA: Dragon’s Blood is a Netflix animated series which had a hugely successful debut, with the recent announcement that a second season is now in the works. DOTA: Dragon’s Blood saw the original game’s characters adopt an anime aesthetic, which proved popular enough for Valve to remodel DOTA 2’s tutorial experience....

The first DreamHack Masters CS:GO event of 2020 has been moved online, the tournament organizer announced today. Now renamed to DreamHack Masters Spring, the event will feature regional divisions like those used in other tournaments adapted for online play. The event’s prize pool has also been boosted from $250,000 to $300,000. The DreamHack Masters tournament was originally set to take place in Jönköping, Sweden, in June of 2020. Like previous Masters tournaments, the event would bring sixteen of the world’s best CS:GO teams together in a fight for the lion’s share of a $250,000 prize pool....

Initially touted as one of the PS4’s strongest exclusives and a game that was going to prove the console’s worth at launch, the actual release of DriveClub has been nothing short of a disaster. Releasing a year later than planned, the extra time Evolution Studios gave their team racer was rocked by “unexpected” issues at launch. These unforeseen problems are mostly down to the game’s servers. Unable to be fixed by simply using more servers, it has required Evolution Studios to put together new server code just to get DriveClub to its current state; and even that leaves something to be desired....

Denis Villeneuve is determined to finish Dune in time for its holiday season release. That doesn’t appear to be an easy task in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Indeed, Villeneuve was quarantining from his Canadian home in Montreal when he revealed to the Shanghai International Film Festival (via IndieWire) how much pressure the pandemic has put on Dune, which only now in August is about to begin its reshoots—a fact star Rebecca Ferguson previously alluded to in a separate interview....
