The Dutch ban on loot boxes has forced Valve to alter DOTA 2 to comply with local laws, and their solution looks suspiciously a lot like gambling. At the end of last month, the Dutch government’s ban on gambling in video games took effect. This meant that loot boxes from all games, whether it be Overwatch, PUBG, or DOTA 2, were all illegal. Developers everywhere had to come up with some solution to take loot boxes out of their games, but only for players in the Netherlands (or Belgium, which also banned loot boxes, but we’re not talking about them right now)....

When it was announced at last year’s E3, Ubisoft team shooter Rainbow Six Siege instantly made an impact because of its multiplayer. In the gameplay demo, viewers saw a team of player controlled operatives on a rescue mission looking to capture a hostage from a group of (also player controlled) criminals. The team had to work together using their class-based skills to best the hostage takers, as well as using teamwork and their assessment of the setting to find the best way to get in and get out without dying or getting the hostage killed in the process....

Elder Scrolls 6 is still a long way away as Bethesda’s Todd Howard confirms it’s still in the design phase. The Elder Scrolls 6 wasn’t at E3 this year. Nary a word was mentioned of the long-awaited Skyrim sequel during the joint Xbox/Bethesda conference, which has left Elder Scrolls fans hungry for news on how things are coming along with the sixth main entry into the series. According to Bethesda’s Todd Howard in a recent interview with The Telegraph, the “vast majority” of Bethesda’s efforts are being put behind Starfield at the moment....

However, players can not get into the website to download it because of the mass flooding of customers to the website. The mass rush to the website was accidental, after this Tweet released the promotion early, and has since been deleted....

E3 may be an all-virtual affair this year after COVID-19 put the kibosh on last year’s convention, but Stanley Pierre-Louis, CEO and President of the Entertainment Software Association, said that future E3 shows will probably be a hybrid of physical and digital events. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Pierre-Louis said that, while nothing is set in stone as of yet, E3 2021 should give organizers an idea of how to integrate online elements into the in-person show for years to come....

Yesterday was a pretty big day for both Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons after developer Mojang revealed many new details and updates for both games at the Minecraft Live event. As far as Minecraft is concerned, the game is set to release the highly-awaited Caves and Cliffs update next year, which will bring new caves, mobs, creatures, and resources. Now, several exciting new things were also revealed for Minecraft Dungeons. A new Kickstarter run by a team of self-described “Blizzard Entertainment veterans” seeks to bring gamers a unique episodic action-adventure horror title called Broken. The new studio, made up largely of ex-Blizzard developers and called Kollide Entertainment, said in their Kickstarter description that their intent is to develop a narrative-driven, action adventure horror game. If that description sounds a little familiar, that’s because Kollide cite Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us as one of the inspirations that drive Broken, joining the team behind Final Fantasy 15 as yet another group publicly praising the way The Last of Us has challenged game development....

As players progress throughout the Fable franchise, they undergo several changes from peasant to hero, from exile and king. Albion too changes throughout the franchise, becoming more and more industrial and also resulting in the world feeling less magical and home to heroes. Arguably, that’s the point as the variety of heroes dwindle and heroes become made, not born. Thematically, it’s a solid idea but implementation goes a long way. And by Fable 3, the popularity of the franchise had shriveled, only being carried by the nostalgia and magic of what it used to be....

The acquisition of ZeniMax Media by Microsoft doesn’t appear to have impacted the continued development of Fallout 76, despite the new ownership. In a new update shared by Bethesda Game Studios, the Fallout 76 team shared a variety of information about the online game’s upcoming update. Arriving on October 13, the next Fallout 76 update will focus on bugs, some Halloween cosmetics, and most excitingly, some background framework for the late-2020 Steel Dawn Update....

During today’s Devolver Direct presentation, a pair of ex-Ubisoft employees announced the formation of a new studio. The studio is named Beans and according to the announcement, the plan is to hire a variety of more talent for the studio’s first project. But it’s the identities of the two founders that make Beans’ future such an interesting prospect. Dean Evans, in particular, is interesting. Evans worked for Ubisoft for 12 years, leaving in 2018....

Rainbow Six Siege’s most controversial map, Favela, is making its way over to ranked play following big tweaks that were made to its layout and systems. As reported by PC Gamer, Ubisoft announced that the map would be joining the ranked roster over on Twitter. The map is currently available to try out on the Siege test server but will be coming to live servers in update Y6S2.2 later in July....

Destiny’s newest update dramatically changes the game’s upgrade economy, giving players more ways to reach the new 400 Light level cap in Rise of Iron. Destiny’s latest update, 2.4.1 is now live and make a number of changes and bug fixes to the game. Most notably, as previewed before, the update widens the upgrade economy and increases the Light level from 385 to 400. Developer Bungie posted the full Patch Notes on their website, listing the loot and its level that players can expect to receive across Destiny’s activities:...
