There’s the epic franchise starter, the historically important arcade title, the dubious indie-cred mention and a fair few sequel-spammed efforts that eventually outstayed their welcome. Then of course, there’s Shenmue, a Sega title occupying a theme all its own — that of the high-flying franchise mysteriously allowed to die....

It seems like a piece of news posted by Deadline on Twitter, which was in fact an announcement about the science fiction author James E. Gunn’s passing, led to the confusion....

As waves of restrictions lift on business operations, businesses all across the United States are announcing plans to reopen in spite of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Among these businesses is theme park giant Disney World in Florida. Disney has announced plans to reopen the park starting on July 11th, a full 6 days before the reopening of the Disneyland park. This news comes with details of a new park pass system that enforces social distancing....

In Divinity: Original Sin 2, the basic skills are not enough. Because what separates you from most other NPCs in the game apart from the fact that the game’s tailor-made for your character, is that you’re a Sourcerer. That’s a designation for an elevated magic user in the game’s lore. Sourcerers can use Source, which is basically like mana laced with high-fantasy performance-enhancers, which the Gods gulp down like soda....

Doctor Strange raked in over $200 million during its domestic run, with a global total of over $675 million, so it shouldn’t have come as any surprise that Doctor Strange 2 eventually happened, but Marvel really took their time making the official announcement. Never fear, though, Benedict Cumberbatch is returning as Stephen Strange. The green light was a mixed bag of news for the sequel, as original director Scott Derrickson, who did great work on the first film, dropped out of directing Doctor Strange 2 – which has the intriguingly pulpy (and awesome) title of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – and none other than Spider-Man and Evil Dead director Sam Raimi took over helming it....

The first part of Doom Eternal’s The Ancient Gods DLC is finally here, bringing with it a brand-new campaign, fresh enemies, and a continuation of the original game’s story. Both new entries in the Doom series have come packed with a ton of fun secrets, and The Ancient Gods: Part 1 is no different. One of the most notable discoveries thus far was shared on Reddit yesterday, when user Every-Mercy-Main realized that pressing X three times while on the DLC’s runes tab on Xbox One brought up a strange variation of the game’s title....

The weirdest team in all of comics is arriving with a live-action TV series from DC TV mastermind Greg Berlanti. The Doom Patrol were first introduced on the Titans TV show, and will spin off into its own 13-episode series on the DC Universe digital service. Picking up after the events of Titans, Doom Patrol will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same....

An otherwise slow period for gaming (or at least new video game releases) was recently interrupted by reports that controversial streamer Dr. DisRespect may be helping to start a new video game studio that will focus on influencer-driven/supported projects. Dragon Age 4 is coming at some point, though no one knows when the actual release date will be, and developer BioWare continues to reassure fans that the sequel to its much-beloved fantasy RPG is happening. Now, apart from a vague trailer that was released in 2018’s The Game Awards, not much is known about the upcoming sequel, though the brief preview revealed that “The Dread Wolf Rises.” Of course, given that information about Dragon Age 4 is still being kept under wraps, the game itself is open to speculation....

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot fans’ patience has finally paid off, as DLC 2 introduced Golden Frieza and the powerful new Super Saiyan Blue form to the mix. Though there was more content than the first DLC, many players have already finished up with most everything DLC 2 has to offer and are looking forward to what comes next. Producer Hiram Garcia has confirmed the upcoming Black Adam movie, starring Dwayne Johnson, won’t start filming until 2021. Speaking to Collider, Garcia said “COVID threw a curveball in a big way and readjusted everyone’s schedule, but I think the easiest way to look at it is it simply pushed the entire industry’s schedule a few months… We’re planning to pick back up with Black Adam some time first quarter next year and hoping to lock that all down soon....

Electronic Arts is distancing itself entirely from the Origin name, as users can see from the service Origin Access being replaced by EA Play. Now the Origin desktop app, where players can access EA’s games through PC, is being rebranded to be the “EA Desktop App” instead. It hasn’t been that long since EA Play got an overhaul, as the subscription service came to Steam and allows players to access major EA titles through the other game store....

The past few years have seen a rapid change in the way that gamers pay for and enjoy their games. Once thought of as an uncertain and unstable way to make money (in comparison to the premium business model where developers get their money back as soon as players buy the game), free to play has become massively popular. That’s thanks to games like League of Legends and DOTA 2 in which players enjoy the game for free but pay real money for added (usually cosmetic) bonuses, along with thousands of mobile games such as Crossy Road and Trivia Crack that are free to play but are supported by microtransactions or the removal of ads....

As with pretty much everything, 2020 took a toll on the football season as well. All 2019 - 2020 domestic and international matches were called off due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. After jealousy waiting for the past four months, Earth Defense Force publisher D3 is finally going to release their latest EDF game in North America. Earth Defense Force: World Brothers will hit the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC via Steam on May 27. Unlike previous games in the series, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers eschews realistic graphics in favor of voxel destruction. Blowing the heads off giant ants is just as satisfying when they turn into a bajillion cubes, but even more satisfying when buildings do the same thing....

Sephiroth, against all odds, has finally landed in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and if you’ve already purchased Fighters Pass 2 to pre-order all of those upcoming characters, then you can already access Sephiroth if you’re up for the fight of your life. Beat down Sephiroth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s limited-time Sephiroth Challenge mode and you’ll unlock the villain early, including his Classic mode playthrough. This is a nice bonus for dedicated SSBU players, and if you want to make the most of this limited-time mode, then you should clear it on Very Hard, the toughest difficulty, and prove your worth....

One of the few games to earn a 5/5 star rating on Game Rant this year is that of Gears of War 3, the latest release from Epic Games which rounded out the trilogy. While we love the game for its trilogy-concluding story arc, co-op modes and multiplayer, we cannot say the same about the DLC plans they and Microsoft Game Studios have put together. A $30 DLC season pass for content that wasn’t clearly revealed up front, combined with $45 worth of… in-game weapon textures had a lot of fans of Gears of War 3 understandably upset, but the two faces behind Epic, Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson, explain why pre-planning DLC is necessary....
