The upcoming turn-based tactical game Empire of Sin is a pretty big deal, as its coming from famed developer Brenda Romero with her husband John Romero — one of the most iconic game developers in the medium — working on a few different aspects of the game. Empire of Sin also features a bevy of interesting characters, but one stands out more than others. A video released today details the backstory of Elvira Duarte, who just so happens to be based on John Romero’s great-grandmother....

Tabletop RPG news and content site EN World recently launched another Kickstarter to help fund Advanced Rules Miscellany: 5th Edition Rules Modules. This softcover sourcebook features five “plug-in” rule sets designed to expand and enhance official fifth edition rules. The Kickstarter quickly reached its $663 goal, and with five days remaining as of this writing, is sitting pretty at just over $11,500. HexGaming recently announced the uber-expensive Hex Rival PS5 controller. Made with a unique modular design for customizable performance, the gamepad is hoping to become a must-have item for professional esports athletes – although its $250 price tag might make it a hard sell. If you look past all those digits, however, you’ll find a PS5 controller filled with impressive features. Remappable buttons, interchangeable thumbsticks, various thumb grip designs, and an overall focus on flexibility make it sound like an interesting option beyond the standard PS5 controller....

Today, several games were shown during Microsoft’s Inside Xbox event, the first of a series of events that are being planned over the next few months. With a first-party event planned for July, the focus was on third-party games coming to Xbox Series X, and while the Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla “gameplay” reveal was the star attraction, there was a surprising number of next-gen horror games featured in the showcase. Final Fantasy XIV’s Make It Rain Campaign has begun! From October 21 to November 20, players will be able to enjoy a 50 percent increase in Manderville Gold Saucer Points (MGP) earned through Gold Saucer or Triple Triad Activities! Although the MGP bonus is automatic, players will be able to pick up a quest from Nanaphon, an NPC standing just outside the main Aetheryte in Ul’dah to unlock all of this event’s rewards....

Pokémon Sword & Shield were important games in the Pokémon franchise, as they were the first mainline entries in the series to appear on a home console. Game Freak seemed averse to the idea of putting a mainline Pokémon game on anything other than a handheld console for the longest time, but at one point, there was a full-fledged Pokémon game planned for the N64. Pokémon Red & Blue were a huge success for the Game Boy and fans who came into the series through the anime practically salivated at the thought of the series making the jump to the N64, which was Nintendo’s main home console at the time....

It has been a week since Fall Guys was released and took the world by storm, and those who have played already have their favorite and least favorite rounds. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout was unleashed on the world last week and suffice to say, it has managed to take it by storm. A controversial classic in Bethesda’s longstanding post-apocalyptic action RPG series, Fallout 4 was a game not without its share of issues upon release. The story about a pre-war veteran who wakes up in the future and goes out to look for their missing son across the Commonwealth, there were plenty of hiccups regarding the game’s story upon initial release. These included a lackluster karma system, a linear main plot, and most importantly, plot holes left hanging that felt incomplete....

One of the biggest issues that gamers have constantly run into with current-gen hardware has been the limitations of each platform’s hard drive. While each launched with 500 GB, consumers have quickly found themselves filling it up in very little time – forcing both Microsoft and Sony to start shipping 1 terabyte units. Even then, the file sizes of hotly anticipated games like Star Wars Battlefront and Fallout 4 are sure to be talking points for those with cluttered drives....

Far Cry 5 is the first entrant from the series to take place in the United States, allowing gamers to experience the intriguing chaos of a religious cult as it wreaks havoc on the Montana locals. While the setting has certainly established some great building blocks for a layered story, sometimes gamers just want to duke it out against one another in more familiar digs - and thankfully, the arcade mode from Far Cry 5 allows fans to do exactly that....

Detective Pikachu, the live-action film adaptation of Nintendo’s mobile adventure game, is arriving in theaters later this week. Viewers will be treated to 3D depictions of dozens of their favorite Pokemon, a first in the franchise’s twenty-year history. It’s certain to be a heartfelt story designed to appeal to viewers of a young age, but according to Detective Pikachu voice actor Ryan Reynolds, there’s a Rated-R side to the film that may never see the light of day....

Codemasters is having a bit of a tough time out on the course this year. After previously delaying DiRT 5 by a few weeks, the upcoming sequel to the popular racing series has been delayed yet again. I’m not sure how many different racing puns I can come up with, but this latest rough patch will see the game release on November 6, 2020, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The planned next-generation versions are still coming in 2020, though are probably going to be delayed as well....

Thank goodness it’s Halloween. Now we can finally stop pretending that anything matters other than the spooky-ookies! QuakeCon 2019, the convention celebrating all things id Software, started off with a major announcement. Bethesda is bringing all three classic main series Doom games to modern platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3 are all now available to download across all three platforms, with Doom and Doom 2 also available to download and play on iOS and Android devices. The Doom franchise began in 1993 on the pre-Windows PC operating system MS-DOS....

Dr. Mario World continues to infantilize the characters in the Super Mario Bros. franchise, as the next addition to the game will be Dr. Baby Wario. Yoshi’s Island introduced Baby Mario to the series, as Yoshi and his pals had to protect the infant from capture throughout the game. This opened the floodgates, and baby versions of other Super Mario Bros. characters were created over time. All of this led to the creation of the greatest Mario Kart track of all time, in the form of Baby Park, and the baby characters have appeared in numerous Mario games since....

After just this week we heard news that the first DLC offering for Dragon Age 2 would be announced by BioWare at the San Diego Comic-Con next month, it seems that details on the content and its achievements have already made their way online. If the leaked information is to be believed, then the first DLC will be titled ‘Legacy,’ and will be taking place in a new structure located in one of Dragon Age 2’s mysterious environments....

The Dragon Age series is well-loved for its choice-based, compelling world-building, and especially for its fleshed out characters. Companions in Dragon Age are loud and opinionated, more often than not unafraid to tell you exactly what they think. Building a relationship with all these people with different personalities and values can be a struggle, especially when you don’t really know what they stand for. Fear not, though! By using D&D alignments as a basis, it’s a bit easier to figure out what’s important to these characters—at least so they’ll be a bit nicer to you....

The third and final story DLC for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has been revealed. ‘Trunks: The Warrior of Hope’ will go back in time and focus on the future alternate timeline of the Android Saga, where Android 17 and 18 destroyed the world and our heroes 13 years after Goku’s death via the heart virus. The trailer was revealed during Bandai Namco’s Dragon Battle Hour event. The trailer opens with Goku’s friends and family mourning his death due to the virus....
