With E3 week finally behind us, we have some big and small titles to look forward to. While the likes of Breath of the Wild 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Starfield stole the show, the Devolver Forwarder and Wholesome Direct treated us to scores of indie games. However, there was one trend that was noticed throughout the showcase week, the number of non-violent games was on the rise. New developer Darkflow Software reveals its ambitious new game, Enlisted, which gives players a chance to experience some of World War II’s most iconic battles. Thanks to the success of Electonic Arts and DICE’s recently released shooter, Battlefield 1, which is set in World War I, there will surely be many historic war games coming in the next few months and years. In a surprise move, Epic Games has recently acquired Houseparty, a social video app that is popular with the teenage demographic. Many are wondering what exactly Houseparty is and what Epic is doing with social media, as its primary focus is on the unstoppable juggernaut Fortnite. Houseparty is a mixed bag of social media technology that uses aspects of Snapchat, Facetime, and Chatroulette. Users can participate in split-screen video chat with two to eight other users....

The highly awaited ESL One Cologne has been moved into an online tournament. The people running ESL Cologne 2020 has decided to transition the event from an in-person tournament, into an online tournament due to the ongoing pandemic. According to them, the decision was concluded as they stated, “after extensive research and understanding of global travel regulations and individual national guidelines”. The tournament will now be divided into 4 separate divisions based on regions....

While Hideo Kojima’s most recent work is the polarizing & unique Death Stranding, the auteur game designer became a household name with his seminal Metal Gear franchise. The first release came out in 1987, but it did not reach mainstream gaming audiences until the series’ first 3D outing, 1998’s Metal Gear Solid. The world can’t seem to get enough of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, and that extends to hardcore fans of other games. In fact, some players are so into it that they are recreating the game in other titles—including Fortnite, whose robust Custom Game mode has enabled shenanigans that are almost as good as the actual Fall Guys. Following an updated roadmap for the future of Fallout 76 over the course of the next few months, and leading up to the Steel Dawn update that is planning to drop late this year, Bethesda has announced a return of a popular feature. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt already has critically acclaimed graphics, but it’s now possible to make them look even better thanks to a mod that improves character models and textures. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was praised at launch for having some of the most vibrant graphics ever seen at the time. The player could easily just put Geralt on his horse and ride around the countryside, marveling at the incredible detail that had been put into the foliage....

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu featured appearances from the Kanto starter Pokémon and their fully-evolved forms, but some of them had more prominent roles than others. Charizard had a major scene in the movie where it fights Detective Pikachu in an underground Pokémon Fight Club, yet Venusaur was relegated to a background cameo. Venusaur was shown in the “Casting Detective Pikachu” trailer, which revealed the new designs of many of the Pokémon that appeared in the film....

In late October, DICE finally released their highly anticipated FPS sequel Battlefield 4 to a hungry cavalcade of fans. Since that time, however, the next-gen and current-gen game has been plagued with numerous issues, from server connection problems to significant and troublesome gameplay bugs. Earlier this month, Disney fans called for the company to re-theme its classic ride Splash Mountain due to its controversial, racist origins. It seems like Disney had the same idea, as the company has officially announced that the ride will soon be getting a complete Princess and the Frog re-theming, much to the excitement of fans of the 2009 animated film. According to Disney, the plans to replace the Florida and California attraction have been in the works since last year....

SAG-AFTRA, the leading union that represents media workers in the United States, expressed that its National Board voted “overwhelmingly” in favor of Donald Trump facing expulsion in a disciplinary hearing for allegedly violating the organization’s constitution. On January 19, SAG-AFTRA put out a statement ordering a disciplinary hearing for Trump, acting on charges initiated by National Executive Director David White at the request of Union President Gabrielle Carteris. Expulsion is the most severe penalty possible for a member....

Twitch ended up suspending Donald Trump’s Twitch account back on June 29 because it featured Trump making comments that were considered hateful under Twitch’s Service and Community Guidelines. Trump uses the account to stream his addresses and campaign rallies and ended up airing two that committed back-to-back infractions. Now, after two weeks, Twitch has gone ahead and lifted the suspension, allowing Donald Trump to go back to streaming as usual.
