Ubisoft is having a really tough time keeping the lid on its games. No sooner do we get leaked gameplay footage of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla do we get leaked images of Watch Dogs: Legion showcasing the game’s team menu and character abilities. And now we might have just been handed the biggest leak of them all.
Far Cry 6 is coming.
The news is all over social media where apparently the Hong Kong version of the PlayStation Store accidentally put up a listing for Far Cry 6 a little ahead of schedule. It’s almost certain to be announced at Ubisoft Forward, Ubisoft’s E3 replacement event that starts on Sunday.
There was a wealth of information shown on the listing before it was taken down, including who stars as Far Cry 6’s villain. Giancarlo Esposito will play the evil dictator of the fictional country of Yara where the populace is in open rebellion. You might remember Esposito as Gus Fring on Breaking Bad as well as Better Call Saul, and also as Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian. Quite the snag for Ubisoft here.
Players will take on the roll of Dani Rogas, a guerilla fighter trying to take down the Yara government. Forbes notes that the name Dani is omnisexual, so we might see something similar to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in that it’ll let you play as either a female or male protagonist without the choice affecting the story (probably).
“Employ makeshift weapons, vehicles, and Amigos, the new Fangs for Hire to burn the tyrannical regime to the ground,” reads the listing, noting that it will feature Far Cry’s usual mix of dense jungles and fabulous beaches. It’ll also be the “largest Far Cry playground to date” thanks to the inclusion of Esperanza, the Yara’s capital city.
Far Cry 6 has a launch date of February 18th, 2021. Expect to see pre-orders go live on Sunday during Ubisoft Forward. Those that buy on the PS4 will get a free upgrade to the PS5 version of the game, and we suspect the same thing will be available for Xbox owners.
