There are a plethora of reasons to be excited over the upcoming Far Cry 6. Ubisoft, as the game’s leading publisher, always takes its games to a significant extreme to ensure fans and players get the best possible experience, be it new features or the appearance of a Hollywood star. As of this writing, the developer has yet to release many details about the upcoming title besides its in-game footage trailer.

With Far Cry 6’s release on the horizon, there is the ideal time to take a look at everything that is known about the franchise’s sixth major installment.

10 Far Cry 6 Will Star Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul Villain, Giancarlo Esposito

Calm-yet-chaotic, easy-yet-perplexing, who could top Giancarlo Esposito’s chilling and eerie performance as Gus ‘The Chicken Man’ Fring on Breaking Bad and its spin-off, Better Call Saul? Sure, credit needs to go to Vince Gilligan as the showrunner, but Esposito deserves an applaud for bringing the character to life.

Esposito will officially be the final boss of Far Cry 6, and it won’t be the first time the series has featured a Better Call Saul star. In 2012, Esposito’s co-star Michael Mando appeared as Vaas Montenegro in Far Cry 3. What’s next — Jesse Pinkman on Far Cry 7?

9 It Will Center the Story of a Fascist Leader, Antón “El Presidente” Castillo

Far Cry 6 will center around Antón Castillo, a fascist leader of a fictional Caribbean island and a son of, also, a former dictator, played by Giancarlo Esposito, as he faces the regular threat of democracy from his people.

“His goal is to use the resources that they have within the country to survive without allowing outsiders to come in and co-opt their scientists, their intellectual property, all of these things,” the Breaking Bad star told IGN.

8 Portraying Such a Powerful Leader, Giancarlo Esposito Was Inspired By Winston Churchill

Still speaking to IGN, Esposito hailed the former Prime Minister of United Kingdom, Sir Winston Churchill, and his visit to Uganda in 1907 as his main inspiration for reprising the role. Back in the time, it was a rich & beautiful country, dubbed as ’the Pearl of Africa,’ despite its lack of governmental structure.

“It was feeling as if I’m in this lush place that had no means to get out the cucumbers and the potatoes,” Esposito said. “It had no means to really market the beautiful flowers to the world, that had no leadership, hadn’t followed through to be able to take advantage of their assets and yet keep them still at home.”

7 It Will Take Inspiration From Modern-Day Cuba

Speaking to Cameron Corliss of GameRant, to bring the characters and the settings to life, Ubisoft has, at least, spent about a month down at the island of Cuba. The publisher cited the country as its main inspiration and even sat down with real-life guerillas for the game’s development.

Similar to the previous games, Far Cry 6 will look to reality for inspiration in crafting a living, breathing world that has a unique feel and look to it.

6 It Will Have a Pretty Confusing Set of Time

Yara might have taken direct inspiration from modern-day Cuba, but some vintage cars from the ’50s and ’60s can be found on the trailer. The reason behind that is because, as Ubisoft describes, Yara is “frozen in time.”

“In a gameplay sense, (it is) the idea of an island that’s been blockaded and cut off from the rest of the world for so long,” Khavari told GameRant further, implying the idea of an isolated city and how it affects the civilization of its citizens.

5 It “May” Have Multiple Endings

Speaking to HypeBeast, Esposito mentioned that the game’s development required the actor to complete various takes for different endgames for the campaign. That means there should be multiple endings to Antón Castillo’s fate, regarding what players choose.

“The world is more complete now because you as a human being can make a decision in regard to what happens in regards to Anton Castillo,” he said. While it is not unusual for Far Cry to feature multiple endings, the sixth entry might look to expand on this feature.

Maybe an honor-meter mechanism like Red Dead Redemption 2?

4 Dani Rojas & The Protagonist’s Gender

On Far Cry 6, players will control the fate of Dani Roja, a born-and-bred native of Yara, the capital of Esperanza. Additionally, players are also free to choose their protagonist’s gender.

“Dani is a former military drop out, really didn’t want anything to do with the revolution,” Khavari told GameRant. However, things take a toll on Dani quickly, as he gets swept up in Libertad guerilla movement to overthrow Anton’s tyranny.

3 It Will Be the First Far Cry Game That Features Voiced Protagonist In Years

Contrary to the previous Far Cry game, Far Cry 5, which featured a silent protagonist, Far Cry 6 will be fully voiced and even switch to a third-person perspective for its cutscenes.

“I think what’s exciting is we’re doing full performance capture and voice,” Khavari confirmed to GameRant. The switch to third-person for cutscenes essentially necessitates the inclusion of a voice actor for Dani, as otherwise, it would break the immersion. Far Cry tends to allow its villains to overshadow the protagonists, but the upcoming entry looks set to shake things up.

2 There Will Be a Collectors Edition Which Features a Flamethrower

For Far Cry’s hardcore fanbase, as of this writing, a ‘Collector’s Edition’ of Far Cry 6 is available on Ubisoft’s online store for $199.99. This includes a flamethrower replica, a world map, Far Cry 6’s official soundtrack, a 64-page artbook, a steel book, a collector’s case, and many others.

A cheaper alternative, the Ultimate Edition, is also available for $119.99. This features the basic game, the Ultimate Pack, and the Season Pass. Finally, the Gold Edition costs $99.9 and the Standard one will cost $59.99.

1 Far Cry 6’s Release Date & Console Systems

Far Cry 6 is set to hit game stores on February 18, 2021. Thankfully, Far Cry 6 will still be friendly to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems while also being available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Stadia consoles, and PC.

If the PS4 or Xbox One version is purchased, owners will be able to upgrade to Far Cry 6’s next-gen release for free. This is a practice that quite a number of publishers are taking, and it is great to see Far Cry 6 will be following suit.
