Fans of tabletop war game Star Wars: Legion have reason to celebrate this morning as Fantasy Flight Games have previewed the latest expansion for the popular title. Following last week’s announcement of Padmé Amidala, it was no secret that she would be joined by none other than Cad Bane.

Star Wars Legion is a troop-centric tabletop battle simulator where players use figures to wage the Clone Wars or Galactic Civil War. It is published by Fantasy Flight Games following their acquisition of the rights to create tabletop gaming experiences set in the Star Wars Universe in 2011. Their first entry was the runaway success Star Wars X-Wing, that has paved the way for card games, roleplaying titles as well as miniature games like Star Wars: Legion

Cad Bane is a bounty hunter that specializes in hunting and dispatching Jedi. Following the death of Jango Fett at the battle of Geonosis, his notoriety increased and some now see him as the preeminent bounty hunter in the galaxy. His escapades are of legend, with his first (non-chronological) appearance seeing him infiltrate the Senate Building on Coruscant as part of a group of bounty hunters, and then holding the Senators hostage. He aided in the kidnapping of a Jedi Padawan alongside Darth Maul and a kidnapping attempt on Chancellor Palpatine.

While deeply entrenched within Star Wars lore, both canon and legends, he has not made an appearance in any of the movies. When character creator Dave Filoni was tasked with creating Bane he was instructed to go “western” by non-other than Lucas himself. While conducting his research he came across some concept art from the original trilogy; a bounty hunter wearing a wide-brimmed hat and brandishing guns. This discovery went on to influence the design of Cad Bane.

Upon his initial outing to the public in The Clone Wars TV series, Cad Bane became an instant favorite for crew and fans. In addition to his TV appearances, Cad Bane has featured in comic books and video games. He also became a Transformer, but we don’t talk about that. His inclusion into Star Wars Legion should not come as a surprise as he is the perfect antagonist to Grand Republic’s Padmé Amidala. Cad Bane will be available in July 2020 and can be pre-ordered at your local independent game store and on-line through the FFG website.
