Fantasy Flight Games(FFG), makers of all those Star Wars miniatures games with the $100 figures, kicked off the Gen Con festivities with their In-flight Report.
The keynote was hosted by Andrew Navarro, Head of FFG Studio. Despite some early technical difficulties the address quickly moved through announcements about new games, expansions, and updates to previously released games.
Three new games were announced at the In-flight Report: Marvel: Champions, Marvel:Crisis Protocol, and Arkham Horror: Final Hour. FFG also announced new miniatures for Star Wars: Legion.
Marvel: Champions
Marvel: Champions is a one to four player Living Card Game(LCG) in which each player takes the role of a Marvel Hero as well as their alter ego. During play, these heroes team up to take down a villain, thwart their evil scheme, and avoid any negative outcomes in their personal lives. Five heroes come in the base game: Iron Man (Tony Stark), Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), Spider Man (Peter Parker), She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters), and Black Panther (T’Challa). Heroes come with move cards which represent their unique powers and fighting styles. Players also modify their heroes by choosing one of four aspects that function sort of like superhero alignments: Leadership, Aggression, Protection, and Justice. The game also comes with three villain scenarios to play against, Rino, Klaw and Ultron, as well as five encounter card sets that players can use to remix the challenges their heroes face. Marvel: Champions will be released October 2019 for $59.95. FFG also revealed hero and scenario expansion packs that will be sold separately from the main game set and a release roadmap through February 2020:
- October 2019 - Core set November 2019 - The Green Goblin Set December 2019 - Captain America (Steve Rogers) Set January 2020 - Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan) Set February 2020 - The Wrecking Crew Scenario

Crisis Protocol is a skirmish miniatures where players form a team of heroes and/or villains to fight against teams set up by an opposing player. Players can freely mix and match any of the available minis for their teams. Miniature kits are hard plastic. The game uses a resource management system to control game flow. Players spend a resource called power to perform attacks and super heroic feats and earn the resource back by taking damage and other in game effects. Power is also used to activate team up moves in the game. The game also features interactive terrain rules which allow for actions like the Hulk smashing buildings or throwing cars.
The Marvel: Crisis Protocol core set will include Captain America, Iron Man, Spider Man, Red Skull, Baron Zemo, and other unannounced characters as well as terrain and the basic rule set. The Incredible Hulk and M.O.D.O.K. character expansions will also be available at launch at the conference. Key Forge is set to get a new expansion called Worlds Collide which will introduce two new factions to the game while rotating out two existing ones. The Saurian Republic (basically the Roman Empire with dinosaurs) and the Grand Star Alliance (stranded Star Trek characters with the serial numbers filed off) will replace the Sanctum and Mars factions when Key Forge: Worlds Collide arrives in November, 2019. FFG also announced a line of accessories, deck holders, card sleeves etc., designed for Key Forge by Gamegenic, a subsidiary of FFG which makes gaming accessories.
And finally, Genesys, FFG’s role playing game which takes the rule system from the Star Wars RPG, will be getting an update. Specifically, an expanded player manual and rule supplement will add rules to help players use the Genesys system in more settings. This includes new vehicle rules and a step by step guide to world building. The new manual will be released fourth quarter 2019 for $29.95. Also new to the game is the Genesys Foundry, a community creation hub hosted on Drive Thru RPG, which opens tomorrow. And early next year, a Genesys Supplement for the Key Forge setting will be released as well.
