Twitch streamer The Happy Hob was was well on his way to completing another no-hit run, this time on Fallout: New Vegas, but failed the challenge due to one piteous mistake on his part.
The Happy Hob is a Twitch livestreamer well known for his attempts in no-hit runs in gaming. Particularly, he claims the title as the first person to complete the entire Dark Souls trilogy with no hits. A no-hit run in the Dark Souls series constitutes completing a game from start to finish without taking a single hit. The Happy Hob had created what he called “The God Run”: on top of the trilogy known for its brutal and unforgiving combat, he added both Bloodborne and Demon’s Souls to the list. And for his God Run to be legitimate, if he took even one hit among any of the five games, he’d have to start the whole series over from scratch. After several months of these barbaric trials and self-imposed rules did he finally complete his mission in March of last year.
And now he’s begun a new journey; after adding Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the newest Souls-style game, to what he called the “Soulsbornekiro No Hit Run,” and failing, he embarked on his mission to complete Fallout: New Vegas in a no-hit run. In a recent stream, The Happy Hob had made it to the final boss, Legate Lanius. And shortly into the conversation does he realize the fatal error he’s made: choosing the wrong dialogue option.
Please note that the following clip has some strong language.
When discussing the fate of the Legion, Hob responded with “So you’ll retreat?” This would evidently turn out to be the wrong dialogue choice, and he quickly realizes his mistake. Reddit users are quick to point out that he should’ve chosen the first option: “There is victory in wisdom, Legate,” which would have had him avoid any combat with the insanely difficult boss. This tiny mistake would thwart him of his efforts as he had nearly completed the game, which would normally force him to start from the beginning.
After recovering from the shock if his catastrophic mistake, he continues on with a bit of combat, but doesn’t look to have any intention of continuing from this point, and apologizes to his watchers saying “it’s over.” Hob says that, when he starts the run again, he’ll be able to bash it out in about an hour and a half, and ends the stream in pure embarrassment.
Another brave Dark Souls warrior by the name of MezzPlays recently beat Dark Souls 3 in a no-hit run with an interesting twist: with a Guitar Hero controller. The Souls games are already insanely brutal and difficult to complete on their own, but it’s a remarkable feat to somehow complete the game with a fake guitar in-hand.
Fallout: New Vegas is available now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
