Finding power armor in the Fallout 76 wasteland may very well be many gamer’s first priority. Nevertheless, maintaining and running power armor isn’t so simple, as they are powered by fusion cores which are relatively rare. Without them, power armor can’t be used to the best of its ability.
To find fusion cores, veteran players will know to loot generators, abandoned power armor, and loot containers. This straightforward method will not yield high results in Fallout 76, but it’s something simple to do in passing.
Finding even more fusion cores requires a little more effort but has a bigger reward. Crafting fusion cores is a possibility that can lead to a near limitless supply (though it does depend on how much time the player wants to sink in). At the very least, it’s easy enough to power a whole squad with, but the first step is to go to a location such as the Poseidon Power Plant.
Once there, players will need to complete the event to repair the power plant, then build a base around the Fusion Core Processor. Defensive measures should be taken as raiders will attack it from time to time, but other players will likely be around to help. 100 electricity is required to power the processor.
When that is done, players can hang around the processor and collect fusion cores. It produces around 1 core per ten minutes, so it’s not the quickest method. It is reliable, however.
For those who don’t want to spend time on the aforementioned method, there is currently a bug that results in free fuel for a fusion core. Simply make sure to wear the power armor, log off, log back on, and the fusion core will have more fuel than it did before.
Although the last method can be frustrating, it’s a sure fire way to keep power armor running, at least until Bethesda eventually patches it out. Hopefully, one of these methods is enough for the power armor-wearing player, but as more develops, be sure to check back here for more updates, Ranters!
Fallout 76 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
