The long awaited Wastelanders update has finally dropped for Fallout 76, and with it comes an unexpected wave of appreciation for Bethesda. At least, that’s what the game’s official subreddit would lead you to believe.

The update has been out for less than 24 hours and — for the most part — fans of the series seem pleased with the new direction Fallout 76 is heading. A lot of new content has been introduced to the wasteland, but the biggest of them is NPCs, giving the world a bit more of the usual Fallout flavor.

Fans were quick to post their thoughts to Reddit, with threads titled, “Thankyou [sic] Bethesda! I’m loving Wastelanders :)” and “Wastelanders did it. Bethesda pulled a Hello Games style comeback.” Even more glowing — “Genuinely the best experience I’ve had in a Fallout game to date.”

That’s a radically different tone than the subreddit has had in the past. Just a few months ago, the subreddit was up in arms about the game. More recently, the tone had shifted to players asking for changes to some of the more frustrating mechanics, and there wasn’t much praise going around for the developers. As far as keeping the community happy goes, Wastelanders looks to be a resounding success.

The internet is a weird place. Maybe next week we’ll all hate Bethesda again.
