Bethesda is teasing a “significant new feature” that will be coming to Fallout 76 this September, with a reveal coming next week.

The latest “Inside the Vault” blog post has been released, and it details some of the changes being made to Fallout 76 over the next month or so. When discussing the reopening of the Public Test Server, the blog moves on to discuss future updates for the game.

Regarding what’s next for Fallout 76, Bethesda said, “We’re looking ahead toward our next major Fallout 76 update, which we’re currently targeting for release in September. We haven’t yet discussed what’s in store with the September update, but it will include a significant new feature that will give players even more variety in how they choose to experience Fallout 76.”

The blog also mentions that the new feature will be made available in the Public Test Server, which is aiming to be reopened in the next month. It said, “We’re shooting to re-open the Public Test Server this month so that the community can dive into this new feature and begin sharing their feedback with us as soon as possible. While we can’t share details just yet, please keep an eye on Fallout.com next week to learn everything you need to know, as well as how you can join the fun in the PTS.”

There aren’t any more hints towards what the new feature could be, but one early guess is that an early look at Expeditions is being added to the game. Bethesda has previously said that the release date is 2022, but that was specifically for The Pitt. We most recently saw Expeditions at Microsoft’s E3 presentation.

In the blog post, Bethesda’s language makes it seem like it could instead be a whole new feature. Bethesda says that it hasn’t discussed what is to come in the update, which could mean that it’s something brand new. Perhaps it’s a redo of the legendary crafting mechanic that caused a big stir in the community earlier this year.
