Now that gamers have had time to settle into the new Fallout 76 content, there has been a ton of feedback. The game has taken considerable steps in the right direction, and the fact that the Wastelanders DLC was free helped to bring back in some angry players.
The DLC puts 76 in the perfect spot for future free updates and even some larger paid DLC expansions, once they have finished fleshing out the base game. Below are some of the things that players thing have been improved in the game and some issues that have yet to be fixed.
10 Better: Updated Areas
If you log back in, you will quickly notice that some popular areas have been updated. Areas like Point Pleasant are now decorated to relate the factions living there. This helps make them more believable and fill less flat. which is a problem the base game had.
Before, areas felt lifeless even with recordings and ghouls wandering around the map.
9 Still Broken: Aiming
Aiming, especially with precision weapons, can be a bit of a chore in the game. Even for players using excellent connections, the server and enemies can often lag, causing perfect shots to miss. This can be frustrating, especially for players who use a stealth approach or who run into a tight situation.
Players report that this becomes even worse during peak times where servers are active.
8 Better: More Story Content
If you’re a player who has completed the story, then Wastelanders came at a perfect time. The DLC brought with new main story content for players to enjoy. Players can now find a main story with branching paths. The story will directly react to the choice you make, making the game feel more like a Fallout title.
It’s nice to interact with actual NPCs instead of following a line of holo discs to find your next goal.
7 Still Broken: Limited Lore
With all the story content added in, players have still found that the game is lacking in lore. While some areas have had NPCs adding in, others are still limited on lore, making parts of the game feel even more empty than ever.
Even the starting town Flatwoods only has a single NPC added in and would greatly benefit from being inhabited.
6 Better: Factions
The game has now added in factions for the player to join. Joining factions can help influence the flow of the story and give the players new experiences. There are nine new factions, all of which aren’t joinable that are now sprinkled around through the map.
Some are at war with each other, while others get along just fine.
5 Still Broken: Mothman Cult
Players have been interested in the Mothman cult since the release of the game. Many players have spent hours trying to make Mothman hunt them down, and headed to Point Pleasant shortly after starting the game. Many players were expecting the update to bring more information about the cult but have been left wanting.
The cultist are in the game, but they don’t do much other than spout random nonsense about Mothman.
4 Better: More Missions
The game is now padded with more missions that are actually given by NPCs. These missions can range from slaying monsters to being the classic fetch quest gamers are so used to from RPGs. With the new missions comes tons of new plans and weapons for you to uncover.
The update easily adds on dozens of hours of content for fans of Fallout, new or old, to enjoy with their varied gameplay.
3 Still Broken: Enemy Glitches
One thing that doesn’t seem to have changed is how much enemies tend to glitch out. From enemies spawning in walls, to them becoming invisible in the middle of battle, players seem to have issues each time they log into the game.
Some enemies will even avoid reacting to players’ movements even after they have been hit.
2 Better: Allies
If you love your camp, then you will be happy to hear that you can now get allies. Allies in the game can be left to defend your camp from enemies. If you want to set out on an adventure, you can convince your follower to come with you, which can be a huge help during missions.
There are tons of allies to find in the game, and each of them has a different personality to keep things interesting.
1 Still Broken: Player Draw
One of the biggest issues the game has had is bringing players back in. Fallout 76 received tons of backlash on release, and even now, new players are hesitant to come in. The game needs to have a strategy to make new players feel like Fallout 76 is the MMORPG that they want to put all their time in.
There have been tons of MMOs with rough starts, but with the right strategy, they have become some of the most successful games ever.
