The perception stat focuses on rifles and scoped weapons in Fallout 4, with many different and interesting perks increasing the amount of damage that you deal with both rifles and explosive weapons. There are also perks under the perception chart that focus on the amount of accuracy that you have in VATS.
Players that use rifles regularly will want to know all about the different perks that fall under the perception stat and which ones are worth spending your perk points on. Additionally, there are a few perks in the perception stat that have nothing to do with rifles or VATS, including the Pickpocket perk.
10 Awareness
The Awareness perk gives crucial information about what types of damage resistances your opponent has. For example, if an enemy is resistant to energy damage, you can find out about this strength when you target the enemy in VATS.
Although this perk is very useful under the right conditions, it isn’t too important for the majority of the enemies that you will face in Fallout 4, since most enemies die relatively quickly regardless of what type of weapon you use. Because of this, most players don’t end up unlocking it.
9 Pickpocket
Pickpocketing in video games grants you the opportunity to obtain useful items in a quick way, and it has the same function in Fallout 4. Here, it grants you the ability to steal weapons and armor that you otherwise couldn’t obtain.
Additionally, pickpocketing is also useful for obtaining items that you can sell for a profit, such as ammo and stimpacks. Even though the Pickpocket perk is helpful during the beginning stages of Fallout 4, it isn’t particularly impressive because you have to unlock every stage of the perk before you can start to pickpocket weapons and armor off of characters and NPCs.
8 Night Person
Night Person is a unique perk because it grants special bonuses to your character between the in-game times of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. The bonuses that you will receive depend on how many tiers of the perk have been unlocked.
The first few tiers focus on granting extra perception and intelligence during the night, and the final tier grants you extra health alongside the perception and intelligence bonuses. The Night Person perk should only be considered if you enjoy traveling at night.
7 Refractor
Refractor is a great perk to unlock if you have an extra perk point lying around that you don’t know what to do with. This perk grants you energy damage resistance, which is incredibly useful while fighting enemies such as robots and Institute enemies.
Although Refractor isn’t the most important perk in Fallout 4, it has its place among useful perks to use, especially if your character is focused on fighting enemies that use energy weapons.
6 Penetrator
Although Penetrator is one of the most interesting perks in Fallout 4, it is situational and isn’t useful during most combat scenarios. This perk allows you to target an enemy even if they’re behind a wall.
The second stage of the Penetrator perk makes it so that there is no decrease in accuracy while targeting an enemy that is behind a wall. This perk is most useful for sniper builds; however, critical hit builds can also make use of it, since they use VATS often.
5 Sniper
The Sniper perk has many different effects depending on how many stages are unlocked. The first stage allows you to hold down your breath longer while looking through a scope, the second stage grants a chance to knock down an enemy when they’re hit, and the third stage adds an extra 25 percent accuracy for headshots, but only for non-automatic scoped rifles.
The Sniper perk is fun to use, especially with its second stage, since knocking down enemies is so useful during combat.
4 Demolition Expert
Demolition Expert grants extra damage with explosive weapons; these weapons include grenades and other explosive items. After reaching the final stage of the Demolition Expert perk, your explosive damage will double.
The Demolition Expert perk isn’t useful for every type of build in Fallout 4, since some characters never use explosives. However, if you use explosives regularly, then you should prioritize unlocking this perk.
3 Locksmith
The Locksmith perk isn’t only one of the best perception perks in Fallout 4; it also happens to be one of the most useful perks in the entire game. There are many doors and containers in Fallout 4 that require you to have a certain stage of the Locksmith perk before you can unlock them.
If you don’t have the Locksmith perk, then you will miss out on a lot of unique weapons, armor, and items that you otherwise would have been able to acquire by opening a container or door.
2 Rifleman
Similar to the Demolition Expert perk, The Rifleman perk allows you to deal extra damage with weapons that are of the rifle variety. Rifles are one of the best weapon types in Fallout 4, and they deal a huge amount of damage when you attach a scope to them.
The Rifleman perk is most useful for players that prioritize rifles as their main weapon type; however, they can also be useful for players that occasionally use rifles as well.
1 Concentrated Fire
The Concentrated Fire perk is a must-have for sniper builds. This perk deals extra damage when you continuously hit the same body part in VATS. This essentially means that, if you hit a specific body part over and over again, the amount of damage you deal will continue to increase.
In addition to increasing the amount of damage you deal, it also increases your accuracy, which is useful if an enemy happens to move behind cover or runs further away from you while you are fighting them. Every player that uses VATS regularly should unlock the Concentrated Fire perk as soon as possible, even if they don’t use snipers or rifles specifically.
