The USS Constitution quest is one of the most memorable experiences in Fallout 4 both because of the characters that are introduced in the form of robots and raiders and also because of the explorable ship, which creates one of the best atmospheres in the entire game.
Players that want to find out more about the USS Constitution, both the ship and the quest, may be wondering if there’s anything they missed while completing this side mission. There is a ton of history that the player can learn about the ship and even a few pieces of information about the quest and its related assets that are easily overlooked when exploring the USS Constitution for the first time.
10 There Are Skill Checks Available To The Player On The Ship
There are very few skill checks in Fallout 4 and its DLCs however, the USS Constitution is one of the only locations that have a few of them.
There are multiple skill checks that take place during the quest, including an Intelligence skill check. It is easy to miss these skill checks since there are so few of them, and they are not mandatory, but it is one of the most unique attributes of the ship and quest.
9 The Robot At The Entrance Mentions The Sole Survivor’s Pre-War Job
The Sole Survivor was either a military veteran or a lawyer depending on their gender; however, a lot of players don’t know this because it is rarely ever mentioned in the game.
Regardless, the USS Constitution will give the player a chance to learn this information because the robot at the entrance mentions it to the player when they approach it. The robot scans the player, and that is how it determines the Sole Survivor’s Pre-War job.
8 After Completing The Quest, The Player Gains Access To The Captain’s Quarters
The Captain’s Quarters of the USS Constitution can usually only be accessed by Lockpicking the entrance or finding the key. However, if the player completes the quest and helps Captain Ironsides, then they will gain access to the Quarters as a sort of player home.
Although this semi-player home isn’t giant, it’s still a nice reward for helping the robots launch the USS Constitution instead of helping the raiders.
7 Captain Ironsides Didn’t Install The Rocket Engines Onto The USS Constitution
It may seem as though Captain Ironsides or one of the other robots were the ones that installed the rocket engines on the USS Constitution, but it was actually somebody unnamed.
It is strange to theorize about who added the engines since it would seemingly have no value to a human or mutant. It is easy to miss that the robots were not the individuals that installed the engines since that would be the logical conclusion.
6 The Broadsider Is One Of A Kind And Uses A Completely Unique Ammo Type
The Broadsider is a unique weapon that shoots cannonballs at enemies, and it is classified as a heavy weapon. It is considered by most players to be extremely fun to use both because of its aesthetic, and it’s high damage output.
What players may not know about it is that the Broadsider uses a special cannonball ammo type. This type of ammo can not be used for any other weapon, which makes the Broadsider unique in that way. A lot of players also don’t realize how peculiar it is that this weapon is only found at this location since it seems that it would be found in some of the historical museums and locations throughout the Commonwealth and Far Harbor, but it is not.
5 The USS Constitution Can Be Ridden While It’s Moving
The USS Constitution is a giant ship, and many players would love the chance to ride it through the skies of the Commonwealth. Fortunately, it can be ridden if the player hops on to it when it starts moving at the end of the USS Constitution quest.
The player can use a jetpack to ride up to the USS Constitution and land on top of the skyscraper with Captain Ironsides and the rest of the robots.
4 The Robots Have Been On The USS Constitution For 200 Years
The robots that reside on the USS Constitution have been there since the bombs fell at the beginning of the game. This is clear because Captain Ironsides and the other machines were originally built as curators of the ship for tourists that wanted to learn more about it.
This fact makes the existence of the robots even sadder since they gave been trying to set sail for so long. Luckily, the player eventually helps them reach their goal.
3 Captain Ironsides Doesn’t Explode Upon Death
Sentry Bots are known to explode when they are defeated because that is a programmed mechanic that deters enemies from fighting them in fear of the explosion.
However, Captain Ironsides doesn’t have this feature when he dies, possibly because Bethesda didn’t want to include it because the robot needs to die during the quest if the player sides with the raiders. This little known fact is interesting, and it sheds extra light on the design of Captain Ironsides.
2 Every Companion Has Two Unique Lines Of Dialogue Upon Entering The Ship
There are a ton of places in the Commonwealth that companions comment on when they are brought nearby. However, the USS Constitution is different because every companion has unique dialogue for the player to hear when they step inside the ship and during the quest.
It is evident by this tidbit that Bethesda wanted to create one of the most unique locations in the game since they decided to give so much dialogue to the companions of Fallout 4. Each follower has two pieces of dialogue, one for when the ship is first encountered and after the USS Constitution lands on top of the skyscraper.
1 The Player Can Obtain The Lietenuent’s Hat By Traveling To The USS Constitution On Top Of The Skyscraper
The Lieutenant’s Hat is a unique piece of armor that the player can obtain and wear if they side with Captain Ironsides. After completing the USS Constitution quest, the player must travel on top of the skyscraper and talk to Captain Ironsides.
After doing this, he will reward the player with a unique hat to show his thanks for all the help. This hat is unlike any other hat in the game, so it is worth obtaining. It is easy to miss this if the player never travels to the top of the USS Constitution after it lands.
