Fall Guys has enjoyed one hell of an opening week as more than two million people have bought the game on Steam.
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout was released on PS4 and PC last week. On August 4, 2020, to be exact. The guys and gals behind Fall Guys revealed on Twitter that 1.5 million new players tried out the game within 24 hours of its release. The “new” clarification is key here as a lot of people had access to the game’s beta so were already playing before release day.
Aside from the fact Fall Guys is a lot of fun, many might have attributed its early popularity to it being free on PS Plus this month. That will have definitely helped. However, it has since been revealed that two million people have paid $19.99 for the game on Steam. The number of people who have downloaded it for free on PS4 has not yet been revealed.
Fall Guys has had such a good first week that its creators revealed on Twitter that the title has somehow managed to chart twice on Steam’s best-sellers list. That’s because there’s the regular version of the game, and also the Collector’s Edition. It’s also possible to buy the Collector’s Pack separately, so it could be argued that the game has charted three times.
As for how many people are playing Fall Guys, those numbers are also impressive. Mediatonic had a lot of server trouble on day one. So much that the game was shut down for a brief period so it could get its ducks in a row. Something similar happened over the weekend when a whole new influx of players arrived to see what all the fuss is about.
According to Eurogamer, there were more than 100,000 people playing at one time on Steam at some point this past weekend, more than GTA V. It has also been revealed that Fall Guys fans have watched 23 million hours of the game on Twitch. Whether watching it or playing it, Fall Guys is very, very popular right now. If only it had been made available on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch at launch too.
