One can never say that publisher Koei Tecmo doesn’t know its fan base. After holding a poll that let fans vote on which reversible cover art they’d like to see for the upcoming Fairy Tail RPG, the results shouldn’t be surprising to anyone. With a whopping 2,606 votes, fans picked the choice that sees the game’s heroines wearing bikinis.
If there is one thing you can count on most popular anime to deliver, it’s fan service. The Fairy Tail series is no stranger to this, so it only makes sense that the game would indulge in it as well. We’re not sure if the swimsuits are an unlockable costume or DLC, but at least you can stare at them when you open your physical copy.
The other choices in the poll were a little more modest. Basically recreating scenes from the show, they were the typical kind of fluff you see for other anime titles. There’s bound to be some stuck-up people that will balk at swimsuits, but I don’t see the problem here.
Whether or not the game is any good is the bigger question. With its delay until June, it seems likely that Koei Tecmo isn’t rushing it out to make a quick buck.
