Wonders never cease - Factorio has officially left its Early Access, finally getting its Version 1.0 after four years.
This monumental event happened yesterday, August 14th, and was accompanied by this neat little Version 1.0 launch trailer. It really puts the launch in launch trailer, what with the whole launching rocket thing.
Much like a goal in Factorio is to build up something great until you can launch an actual rocket into space, the goal of developers Wube Software has been to build and polish a truly great game to launch out of Early Access (I’m really proud of that analogy). But of course, for anyone who has been playing Factorio for the past four years, you’ll know that it’s already been a great game for that whole time anyway.
In fact, Factorio isn’t just a great game, it’s an incredible feat. For a game in which you pretty much spend all your time building and maintaining factories, it sure is addictive. It’s actually so bloody addictive, it’s considered to be the video game equivalent of crack cocaine and is literally the second top-rated game on Steam after Portal. It even beats The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on that list, too.
The hype is really only something you’ll understand if you give the game a go yourself. Because trust me, even if you’re not someone who usually cares about building and maintaining factories, it will still get you good.
Wube Software was actually meant to still have another month and a bit of tinkering-time left before launching Version 1.0. They were originally aiming for a September 25th launch, but decided to scoot it up to now to avoid an overlap with the Cyberpunk 2077 release. Then of course, the latter was delayed a second time until November 18th anyway.
So thanks to the rush, while we’re busy squashing some of the extraterrestrial bugs in the game, Wube will still be squashing some of their own bugs too. 150 bugs, to be exact, along with 50 other issues that will be dealt with in the 1.1 update. They were also planned UI improvements and a campaign that weren’t quite ready to launch now, so those will presumably be included in the 1.1 update too. So those familiar with the game will notice there’s not a whole lot in the way of new stuff added besides the awesome-looking Spidertron. Check out the latter in action in this test video.
You can get your hands on Factorio Version 1.0 now from Steam.
