The Fable development team has a “unique” view of the Fable series, reveals Microsoft executive Matt Booty. A new Fable game was officially announced at the Xbox Games Showcase last week, confirming the many rumors that Forza developer Playground Games is making a new title in the RPG series.
Speaking to The Guardian, Microsoft head of studios Matt Booty affirmed his faith in Playground Games and its work on the new Fable game. Booty said that the developer has “a real passion for the IP” and a “unique point of view on what’s core to Fable.” Everything that Booty has seen of the new Fable suggests to him that the game will be a “very high-quality release.”
In the same interview, Booty spoke about the great work and the “attention to detail” that Playground has shown in the Forza Horizon series. Fans worried that Playground is going to rip out everything that they know and like about the Fable series will also be glad to hear Booty say that he feels the development team has a “good vision.” Playground knows that it must add something new while keeping to its “responsibility” to Fable fans.
Booty’s comments will have fans wondering what this could possibly mean for the new game. Though there had been rumors that the new Fable game is an MMO, these have been refuted. Well-known figures in the industry have said that while the game may feature online gameplay, it is unlikely to be the full MMO that some had been talking about.
Fans are also wondering if the new Fable could feature a move away from Albion’s industrial design. The teaser trailer suggested that the game will offer a much more fantastical version of Albion, where lush green valleys take the place of powerful machinery. This could be the new idea that Playground Games thought of, or it could just be one of several changes the developer is bringing to the series.
It’s unclear when fans will get to see more of the new Fable game. Rumors about Fable 4 go back to 2018, when a report first leaked that Playground Games is developing the game. However, the developer also has a huge number of job listings open, for roles such as level designer, senior producer, and animation director, which may suggest that the game won’t be released for several years.
