Shown in all of its fantastical glory amid the Xbox Games Showcase last week, Albion glimmers off in a temporal distance thus far still unknown, with a title itself as of yet riddled in underlying secrecy. The next Fable outing has invited an outpouring of praise and excitement, which has likewise been returned in the form of subtle hints as to what exactly this experience may hold for its most beloved fanbase.

While still much of the game remains safely guarded behind an impenetrable Demon Door, fans can rest easy in the knowledge that Fable’s production is being helmed by a crew of talented individuals, each with a résumé as profound as this reboot most assuredly will be upon its eventual release.

In its infancy, Fable was birthed by the legendary minds under Lionhead Studios, which was founded by the likes of Peter Molyneux, Steve Jackson, Mark Webley, and Tim Rance. Upon the studio’s closure in 2016, the IP kind of sifted around in a void of unknowns with Microsoft unsure as to how exactly to proceed with this legendary franchise, until it had acquired Forza star developer Playground Games in 2018, among other various studios of immense worth.

Playground Games now appears vastly different from when it did upon being purchased, as several Rockstar developers and even an ex-Lionhead Studios employee joined the ranks of what would eventually become the start of a whole new Fable. In late-2019, the team was then added with Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham scriptwriting team, which included Martin Lancaster (Fable Narrative Director), Craig Owens (Fable Principal Scriptwriter), Kim MacAskill, Rebecca Haigh, and more. Talent from elsewhere boarding the Fable reboot train at the time included a lead animator from Ninja Theory, a project manager from Metal Gear Solid V, the lead environment artist from Anthem, and even Ghost Recon Wildlands’ senior character artist, Tom Isaksen.

Now it’s clear many more industry vets are building upon this new Fable team, with the likes of Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online level designer, Will Kennedy, taking the role of Chief Designer. Previously Borderlands’ Lead Quest Designer, Hunter Wright, will be taking on the same role at Playground Games. There’s also another Hellblade alum, Juan Fernández de Simón, who will be leaving his Lead Designer role at Ninja Theory to be Principal Game Designer for the Fable reboot. A bevy of likeminded individuals will be helping to bring this new Fable outing to life from games previously left unmentioned, like Dead Space 2, Battlefront 2, Ready At Dawn, Forza Horizon, The Division, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Exient.

What has remained at the forefront of many a Fable fan’s mind is if this new game would be a sequel or a complete reboot, but judging by this absolutely stacked team on hand, and Microsoft’s official statement that it is “a new beginning for the legendary franchise,” it just might be a whole other journey into a reinvigorated Albion. This amalgamation of talent should be enough to warrant some serious anticipation for long-time Fable fans and newcomers alike.

Oh, to be taught amongst the Heroes’ Guild once more will be a delight.
