Fable 3 might seem a bit daunting at first glance, but ironically, you’re thrust into its world in relative comfort, taking on the role of the Prince or Princess of Albion. You wake up in a lovely four-poster bed and begin your day with a quiet stroll around the castle gardens, and then it’s off to do a bit of sword training to round out the morning. Then your brother reveals himself to be a sadistic tyrant and forces you to choose between the life of your childhood sweetheart or the lives of a group of peasants. Whoever you decide to choose, he executes to the other.

Then begins the story proper, which sees you lead a revolution against the King and take his throne for your own, all the while recruiting allies and making outlandish promises that you’re fully aware will be difficult to fulfill – definitely a game that gets a lot darker halfway through. With so much going on it’s difficult to work out what to do first, and beginners are often left in the dark, so here’s what you need to know to get started in Fable 3.

7 Follow The Glowing Trail

Wouldn’t it be great if you had a glowing trail to follow that would always lead you to where you needed to be? You go out shopping and instead of wandering aimlessly, the trail takes you directly to the t-shirt you wanted, even if you didn’t know you wanted it. Well, players of Fable 3 are in luck, because that’s exactly what the game offers you, minus the t-shirt.

The glowing trail shows you exactly where you need to go next, and how to get there. With that said, it should really only be used if you are completely lost, or just wanting to speed through to the next quest – get out there and explore!

6 Start Buying Up All The Property

To get the best ending in Fable 3, you need to be a millionaire. The best way to go about this is to start buying up all the property you can afford, and do it quickly.

Start in the Dweller camp, which is full of relatively cheap houses to buy and then rent out, and go from there. The more houses you have to rent out, the more passive income you earn every five minutes, meaning the more you can spend on buying more property. You should also focus on shops and stalls as opposed to houses which have to be continuously repaired, their condition never deteriorates.

5 Search For Hidden Dive Spots

Stepping off the beaten track can be extremely rewarding in Fable 3. There are so many collectibles to find and places to discover, that if you only followed the golden trail, you would be missing out on a large part of the game.

Some of the places you might not think to explore are the rivers and lakes that are seen in most regions. Dive spots are hidden around Albion in these bodies of water and can be found by exploring out-of-the-way locations, offering access to hidden treasures. With some offering up gold, they are a good way to earn money whilst exploring.

4 Listen To Your Dog

Arguably the best part of Fable 3 (sorry cat lovers), the canine companion is just as useful as he is adorable. As well as being able to pet, and play fetch with him, he will point you in the direction of any hidden treasure nearby.

This means you will have to be on the lookout for when the treasure icon appears above his head, as well as be listening for when he barks to alert you to any treasure in the area. He will also point you in the direction of any dig sites, which often contain useful, if not rare, items. What a good boy.

3 Open All The Silver Chests

Scattered across Albion and Aurora are silver keys and their corresponding chests. You will need to find a certain number of keys before you can open each chest; some require 5 keys, while others require 20. Don’t worry though, the keys aren’t used up when the chests are opened, so as long as you have enough keys, you can open all the chests available.

If you manage to find ten keys before making it to Brighwall village, and early game location, there’s a ten key chest containing 50 thousand gold, which should help start your property empire. If you find all 50 keys, then you’ve got a tidy 2 million gold waiting for you at Bowerstone Castle.

2 Visit The Demon Doors

Demon doors are massive stone doors that can talk and be very judgmental. They will only open to the Hero if certain conditions are met, and will bar entry otherwise. While one might require the hero to max out their combat abilities, another might need you to be the Queen or King of Albion.

Listening to what the doors have to say is key. They will always give clues on to how to open them, if not outright say what they want you to do.

1 Examine Your Weapons

Weapons in Fable 3 operate a bit differently from the other games in the series, in that they will get more powerful as you use them. They all have certain requirements that need to be met before they will upgrade, so it is worth taking a look at what they need before going ahead with any quests, as some might be more suited than others.

For example, if a weapon only upgrades when used against Hollow men, then it’s worth bringing it to Mourningwood, but feel free to leave it behind it in areas like Bowerstone. The Sanctuary allows you to quickly switch out weapons, so be sure to do so if you want to change them into the best versions of themselves.
