One of the most exciting and confounding things about Everwild is how little we learned about the title at the Xbox Games Showcase. Still, we did learn some things about Rare’s newest game, and as always, when we don’t know something, we can SPECULATE!!!

The cinematic “Eternals” trailer was indeed a sight to behold. Rare has always crafted games with stunning art design, and Everwild is no exception to the trend.

While the trailer didn’t show off any in-game footage, it did give us an idea of the game’s narrative. Nature seems to play heavily in the plot, and in almost every scene, we see humans (or humanoids at least) working with animals to preserve one another and the land they call home.

You’ll be playing as a character named Eternal, a character who can sense magic and see how it flows through every living thing. This leads to our first bit of speculation, could the game literally be a rhythm game?

Two separate times in the trailer are unnamed narrator says that her world has a rhythm. Could the game have a rhythm that players have to follow to keep the natural world in order?

Or is this another foray by Rare into multiplayer much like Sea of Thieves? Perhaps instead of digging up lost treasure and fighting skeletons, players will need to work together to preserve the harmony of nature?

How about a Pokemon-Esque creature collection game? As said, animals play a significant role in the trailer. It could be that you need to go around and befriend these creatures to unlock different gameplay options or even parts of the map.

At one point, we see huge beaver-like creatures ripping down trees for their human companions. Could it be a resource management game that showcases how difficult it is to live as one with nature?

Right now, it seems only Rare has the answer to what Everwild actually is, and they aren’t talking. We also don’t know a release date yet. But whenever it does release, you’ll be able to play it day one on Game Pass.
