Although Halo: Infinite looks like it shares many familiar characteristics with earlier entries in the series, the game’s open-world map will certainly set it apart. We may have only seen a short glimpse of it, but dedicated Halo fans have already begun mining information from that map, revealing what appears to be several different types of locations.

First off, three points of interest marked in red have been given the names, “Green Spire,” “Conservatory,” and “The Tower.” Seeing as they’re red, one can assume that these locations are occupied by enemies, and they likely provide players with additional opportunities for combat outside of the main missions.

The red coloring also might indicate that players can turn those locations blue, making them UNSC encampments after clearing out enemy forces. There’s a chance that these points of interest may be involved in the main story missions as well, with later plot points requiring you to travel there.

The map also reveals a reticle marked with the name, “Okro Vagaduun.” This could be just some strange alien name for yet another location, but it’s more than likely the name of a brute war chieftain or some other sort of boss. If Infinite looks to further borrow from other open-world RPGs, this boss might even drop some rare weapons or loot for Master Chief to use for future missions.

Another mission type named “Marine Rescue” also appears on the map. This sounds pretty self-explanatory, hinting that it’ll require you to rescue a handful of marines from alien forces. There’s also a good chance that you’ll receive some sort of experience reward or special loot, and Marine Rescue will likely be a recurring mission type.

Finally, two friendly outposts were discovered on the map as well. These outposts could possibly provide players with a place to visit vendors to stock up on ammo, weapons, and other forms of materials. This also indicates that there will be faction-based locations spread throughout the game’s map, and those locations could certainly change hands.

Overall, Halo: Infinite’s open-world layout just might add a breath of fresh air to the series, and it’ll be interesting to see what else players will discover while exploring its many locations. Look out for the game’s release later this year alongside the Xbox Series X, where we’ll find out just how ambitious this new entry really is.
