The Xbox Series X has the PS5 beat on games, technically. That is to say, Microsoft’s backwards compatibility program beats the pants off of the PS5. That said, there are more launch exclusives for the PS5. Many of them even have multiplayer in mind with ten games in all.

There are some honorable mentions worth mentioning, too. The PS5 version of Watch Dogs: Legion will be ready, but the multiplayer mode still won’t be active until December. The new expansion for Destiny 2 can be played on launch day, but Bungie says the optimized version won’t be ready until December 8. With those notes aside, let’s dig into the multiplayer launch options.

10 Demon’s Souls Remake

The original Demon’s Souls released exclusively for the PS3 in 2009. It has never been made available since. In fact, the online component was taken out not that long ago removing the big hook of the game. This made fans speculate on the idea of a remaster and low and behold their predictions were more than right for a remake. This will no doubt be the toughest game made available on the PS5 at launch.

9 Godfall

Godfall’s marketing campaign has been all over the place. Just what kind of vibe are they going for? Everyone and their mother seem to think loot games are the next big thing and people want a piece of the pie.

The big question is does Godfall do more than its predecessors? It may not have shown great prior to launch but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Having a three player co-op game at a system’s launch is great, so hopefully it won’t be disappointing.

8 Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Sackboy: A Big Adventure will also feature co-op with the bonus of adding in one more for up to four players. Unlike previous LittleBigPlanet games, this one ditches the creator tools in favor of focusing on creating a fun platforming experience. This may be disappointing to some that loved the creativity one could accomplish, but it does look adorable and family friendly all the same. It should scratch that platforming itch until the next Ratchet and Clank launches in 2021.

7 Fuser

Fuser is the latest game from Harmonix who most may remember as the king of party games via Rock Band. This will not create as big of a party scene although it might get a party cranking if people can ever have those again. It’s basically like DJ Hero wherein one can remix classic songs from the 80s all the way up to today in order to please the crowds at a music festival. One can do this alone, with a friend, or play versus matches online with random players.

6 Just Dance 2021

Speaking of party music, Just Dance 2021 continues its yearly release with hot new tracks to dance to. It should be fun for the whole family stuck inside or for those that want to play it alone and exercise their hearts out. If one stays motivated, it really does work, which is a multiplayer mode in and of itself. That is to say one could create a weekly check-in program with friends to see how they are doing with their game. That’s a creative way to add a new multiplayer experience to the PS5.

5 NBA 2K21

If one wants to feel the invigoration of a sport like dancing but be perfectly still, NBA 2K21 might be the perfect game. It should be mentioned that it launched in September for the older systems and actually didn’t review too well. That isn’t all bad news as that might mean the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions will be better. There is always hope. The point is this is the one new sports game at launch for multiplayer fans, so beggars can’t be choosers.

4 Dirt 5

For those looking for another multiplayer type sporting event, there are two racing games that can be played at launch. Dirt 5 also came out earlier for the last-gen systems but only on November 6. It isn’t as old as NBA 2K21 in other words. Also unlike NBA 2K21, Dirt 5 reviewed well across all launch platforms. So rev up those engines because it’s time to get fast and furious.

3 WRC 9: World Rally Championship

WRC 9: World Rally Championship is the other racing game that will be available at launch. It is another “older” release as of September but also reviewed better than NBA 2K21.

In fact, it’s almost neck and neck with Dirt 5 in terms of scoring. What will be the better racing game for PS5? It’s hard to say right now, but based on older reviews, it looks promising no matter what side PS5 players land on.

2 Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War won’t be available until the next day on November 13, which is odd. Since it is only a day off and can be played at midnight anyway, it still counts as a launch game. Players can expect to get swept up in similar online modes as previous entries. There is also zombie co-op action returning for those curious as well as a new mode called Fireteam which is looking a lot like a smaller experience to Warzone. This will definitely be the multiplayer shooter to beat at launch

1 Kingdom Hearts: Melody Of Memory

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will also be available on the thirteenth. It won’t be a PS5 game though as plans, so far, are for it to release on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch in 2020. While that may be true it can be still played on the PS5 and is brand new so it should count anyway. For those curious, this rhythm action game will have a versus mode players can compete in. It may not be Kingdom Hearts IV, but fans should still be excited.
