So you want to live in the world of Pokemon? It is a vast and modern almost-utopia where fantastically cute critters are a highlight of every person’s day, of course you do. We’ve been exposed to so much of that world via video games, television, and even card games, and it looks like an attractive one to live in.

That said, you’d still need money to survive, and that means you’d likely need to get a job. Not everyone is cut out to be a Pokemon master making their fortune by winning battles, especially since that job is full of suspiciously talented 10-year-olds. And certainly, there seem to be a lot of options, so what do you want to be?

9 Pokemon Care

Where else to start than with Pokemon themselves? The world of Pokemon naturally has an industry centered around caring for those adorable monsters. The obvious example is being a Pokemon Center Nurse, tending to the wounds of all the tired and beaten-up Pokemon that those children keep throwing at each other.

There are also plenty of roles at the Day Care to consider if you want to spend every day with different Pokemon, and the option of becoming a Pokemon Breeder if you’re interested in profiting from selective genetics and making the strongest, fastest Pokemon you can.

An oft-forgotten industry is that of Funeralcare. While morbid, it’s still an important part of life to consider and the people who work in this area are worth their weight in gold Nuggets.

8 Industry

With sprawling metropolises and international travel to consider, the industry must be booming in the world of Pokemon. You could join the ranks of Builders and Electricians throughout the regions making sure that the towns and cities are the best they can be, or join the Power Plant Staff to make sure the lights stay on.

If you want to start further up the process though you could attempt to start a career in Mining, as long as you can put up with all the Hikers you’ll be meeting. Another idea altogether could be to apply for a job in a Factory, making useful items such as Potions or Poke Balls.

7 Crime

The world of crime is always an option for the morally lacking. You won’t find these job advertisements on the net but there’s definitely money to be made working for an Evil Team, especially if you manage to become a Team Boss. It’s not our place to judge.

Alternatively, criminals and bad guys may not be your cup of tea and you wish to become a Police Officer. This job has its perks, as you’ll probably be assigned your very own loyal Growlithe. Sadly, it does mean you’ll end up on the night patrol more often than not. The more ambitious law enforcement officers might get to explore the world as a member of Interpol, so keep that option in mind, too.

6 Arts

The arts are incredibly important in the Pokemon world, culture should be preserved for future generations. To that end, you may wish to consider a career as a Historian, learning as you go. For the more practical-minded, a job in Museum Curation lets you interact with both history and the dissemination of this history to the public.

If you want to exercise your artistic mind while exploring the world, absolutely consider becoming a Pokemon Photographer or Naturalist — these jobs will take you all over and let you meet all types of Pokemon. If that sounds attractive to you but you don’t like the outdoors too much, becoming an Archaeologist might be the job for you, diving into ruins and caverns in search of history.

5 Entertainment

The entertainment industry is gigantic no matter where you are, it seems. There are always jobs going in television and radio — you could be a Presenter, News Reporter, Camera Operator, Producer, or even an Actor on the big, silver screen. If your personality is your biggest asset, put your best foot forward!

The world of Pokemon has plenty of options for more practical entertainment too. There’s always a call for the best Athletes around to push their bodies to the limit, and Pokemon Contests exist for the more flamboyant and cool Pokemon Coordinators around. The best of the best might even end up being Contest Judges, which looks like the cushiest of jobs.

We’re not sure how much it pays, but the circus seems to be a solid option. The games are full of Jugglers and Firebreathers, so those talents might snag you a very fun job entertaining children and adults alike.

4 Transport

As we’ve said, this is a modern world that we’re dealing with and there are modern modes of transport that need staffing. Ships like the S.S. Anne need Sailors and at least one Captain, not to mention the inevitable Engineers and Chefs to keep everything running smoothly.

Travel by rail (both overground and underground) also seems to be important, so there will be a call for Conductors, too. And then, at the two ends of the spectrum, we have Taxi Drivers and Pilots. If you can get people where they need to be, there will always be a job for you in the world of Pokemon.

3 Science

Going hand-in-hand with the arts, the sciences are very prominent in the world of Pokemon. Working closely with Archaeologists are the Paleontologists who seem to have never seen Jurassic Park and have no qualms in reviving extinct Pokemon from their fossilized slumber.

In a world where living creatures can be downsized into small balls and then transmitted into computers, having good Computer Scientists seems like a necessity. And that’s not to mention the Biologists and Physicists who must have worked so hard to make that a possibility in the first place.

The (alleged) best of the best will no doubt stay rooted firmly in academia, earn their PhD, and become a Pokemon Professor. This is a badge of honor in the Pokemon world even grander than in our own, and those Professors are afforded a surprising level of celebrity. With such dedication to various studies of Pokemon though, they’ve certainly earned it.

2 Retail

The clockwork that makes life happen as it should — retail is important. It’s how the economy works. Whether you’re working in a Pokemon Market or a luxurious Department Store, providing merchandise to customers will be a stressful yet satisfying occupation.

Alternatively, you could secure a job in the fashion industry. Being a Clothes Designer will feel extremely cool when you see people wearing your designs. Or you could build great customer relationships as a Hair Stylist, whether you’re working on people or Furfrou.

We cannot forget the thrilling and crucial world of hospitality. Cooks and Chefs are extremely important, but it’s the Waiters and Bartenders who make up the backbone of the industry. Working in a cafe or restaurant could be a fantastic way to make a living in the world of Pokemon — if you don’t mind eating the things (there must be vegetarian options, right?).

1 The Pokemon League

Of course, we wouldn’t forget this — you could indeed make a living from a life of Pokemon battles. Starting at the bottom rung you’d be a Gym Trainer, testing the wits and strategic mind of your gym’s challengers and hoping that you could work your way up to being a Gym Leader. It’s an important role that comes with the heavy responsibility of awarding badges to worthy challengers.

Alternatively, you could eschew the league system and try to become a Frontier Brain at one of the various battling parks around the world. These roles are scarce but come with a certain reputation for being extremely skilled, so it’s a prestigious occupation to aim for.

The best of the best will shoot for the stars, hoping to earn a spot in the Elite 4. It takes a lot of skill and success to get here, and there’s really only one more obstacle until you attain the highest role in the league — League Champion. This role comes with money, fame, and as many thrilling Pokemon battles as you want.
