Indie developer Doublehit Studios has revealed more of what players can expect from its upcoming Ghibli-inspired platforming title, Eternal Hope. Specifically, in an all-new trailer, Doublehit Studios shows off the dream-like Shadow World mechanic that players will use to navigate and aid in their travels.
In Eternal Hope, players will take on the role of Ti’bi, a shy character who is on a quest to be reunited with his lost love, traveling across the land of both the living and the dead. The Shadow World - which is essentially synonymous with the world of the dead - is a “mirror dimension that serves as a portal between the living and the dead.”
The two worlds aren’t exactly identical, though. Luckily, Ti’bi is able to transport between both worlds with ease, allowing him to overcome obstacles in the living world to progress through the game. For instance, large gaps that may be in the living world may be too wide for Ti’bi to cross. However, transporting to the world of the dead might uncover a creature or platform that Ti’bi can jump onto before switching back to the living world and landing on the other side of the gap.
The Shadow World creatures - known as the An’mu - that are willing to help Ti’bi showcased in the trailer wear masks, letting players know that they are friendly. Of course, not everything in the world of the dead is there to help Ti’bi on his journey. These An’mu are seen without masks, indicating that they have lost their souls and would like nothing more than to see an untimely end to Ti’bi. What’s more is that even though some of the An’mu might showcase a friendly face, it might just be a front. So, players will need to be extra cautious as they navigate the Shadow World.
Eternal Hope will launch on PC via Steam on August 6th, with an Xbox One release coming later this year. A prologue demo will also be available to try out soon.
