The Elder Scrolls Online is getting a brand new piece of major DLC alongside its upcoming update 27, this one bringing two new group dungeons. The DLC, Stonethorn, includes the dungeons, while update 27 will include a number of interesting new changes to gameplay that should appeal to players.

The last piece of DLC to arrive for The Elder Scrolls Online was Greymoor back in June after its slight delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Stonethorn set to follow up “soon,” according to the game’s website. While the overall mechanics of the game haven’t really changed since its launch six years ago, update 27 is also set to do just that, bringing with it group mounts and more.

According to Bethesda, Stonethorn contains two group dungeons, Stone Garden and Castle Thorn. Stone Garden is the long-hidden laboratory of mad Alchemist Arkasis, located in the depths of Blackreach and filled with his evil experiments, while Castle Thorn is the home of the powerful master vampire Lady Thorn, who commands an army of undead from within its walls. Players will have the ability to explore and fight their way through both locations, eliminating their threats before they can fall upon the people of Skyrim.

The dungeons pack also contains new item sets and collectibles and more Dark Heart of Skyrim storylines, while update 27 adds improvements to performance, various fixes, and balance changes, and homestead character pathing for the housing editor. Meanwhile, likely the most interesting thing to come out of update 27 is group mounts, which are a specific kind of mount that can carry one driver and at least one other passenger–if not more. That means with the several new mounts coming to Elder Scrolls Online, players will be able to ferry one another across the lands of Skyrim and Vvardenfell.

There’s no official release date posted for Stonethorn and update 27, though they’ll definitely be coming sometime between now and October. Stonethorn is likely to be the second-to-last DLC in the Dark Heart of Skyrim campaign, as its final installment–titled Darkstorm–is set to launch in Q4 2020.

Any PC and Mac players interested enough in Stonethorn to give it a try early can play it in The Elder Scrolls Online Public Test Server.

The Elder Scrolls Online is available to play on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
