Those looking to enjoy 4K graphics in Elder Scrolls Online courtesy of a shiny new PS5 or Xbox Series X will sadly have to be patient for one more week. Zenimax just announced that they’re delaying the launch of Elder Scrolls Online: Console Enhanced for one week so as not to coincide with the console launch of the upcoming Blackwood expansion.
“In an abundance of caution, we are moving the ESO: Console Enhanced launch out a week,” Zenimax wrote. “We are doing this so we are not launching Update 30 (Blackwood) at the same time as Console Enhanced and can give both our undivided attention."
Honestly, this sounds like a prudent move. Dealing with a new console launch (and make no mistake, even a mere next-gen upgrade still counts as a new console launch) at the same time as a brand new expansion would be way too much even for a dedicated team like Zenimax Online Studios. Breaking these two releases up by a week is likely the minimum amount of breathing distance required to prevent a total meltdown.
Elder Scrolls Online: Console Enhanced was revealed last March at the same time as the Blackwood Chapter preview event. It will include two graphics modes depending on whether you value 4K graphics or smooth 60 fps gameplay. It’ll also include better draw distances, lighting, reflections, textures, anti-aliasing, shadows, and loading times.
Blackwood, Elder Scrolls Online’s upcoming expansion, is still launching on PC, Mac, and Stadia on June 1. It will feature the waterlogged region of Leyawiin just south of Cyrodiil, a new companion system, as well as the new Gates of Oblivion questline. There’s more, but you can read all about it in our in-depth coverage here.
Blackwood will launch on PS4, Xbox One, and backward compatibility on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on June 8, followed by Console Enhanced on June 15.
