As a franchise that has sold over 58 million titles, the Elder Scrolls series features many spin-offs which supplement the main five entries. One of these games, The Elder Scrolls: Blades has been in development for some time, but early access on iOS and Android mobile devices allowed fans to try out gameplay in 2019. But after an long and overdue wait, the game is finally coming out soon and for the Nintendo Switch, too.
Taking place after Oblivion’s plot but before the events of Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls: Blades offers a new story where the protagonist is trying to survive while being hunted for the actions of their past. Differing from the open-world and exploration options in main titles, Blades has players fighting in nearly unavoidable first-person combat as they proceed through the game in linear fashion. While the actual date has remained a huge question, Nintendo has just provided an answer, no matter how brief.
During a surprising Nintendo Direct Mini, Blades’ release date was updated from the previous 2020 estimate to a definite Spring answer. Fans that want a confirmation for themselves should look right at 24 minutes on the YouTube video. From its inclusion in the announcement, it seems that the Switch will be getting a final version rather than early access gameplay from mobile devices.
Players should note that Blades will still require an internet connection. However, they can rest easy knowing the game is complete with many improvements thanks to feedback over the past year.
The Elder Scrolls: Blades is set to release on the Nintendo Switch in Spring 2020, but is available right now on iOS and Android.
