To say that From Software fans are excited for more news about Elden Ring would be a staggering understatement. The next RPG from From Software was announced just over a year ago during E3 2019, but hasn’t had a major appearance since. The 2020 Summer Game Fest seemed like a ripe opportunity for new Elden Ring news, but it’s already July and no news has been shared. That’s why From Software fans are starting to look toward next week as perhaps the last remaining summer opportunity got an Elden Ring announcement.
Specifically, From Software fans are looking forward to Microsoft’s Xbox Series X event on July 23. The event will focus entirely on Xbox Series X game announcements and gameplay, both from Xbox Game Studios and its partners. And while From Software and Elden Ring haven’t been name-dropped yet, fans are reading into some comments from Phil Spencer that may imply an appearance.
Spencer has spoken several times recently about the Xbox team’s effort in Japan. He talks about Xbox working “very hard to build relationships,” that Xbox fans are “clamoring for amazing games” from Japan, and how Xbox needs to be a stronger platform for those games. Phil Spencer also casually mentioned how Xbox’s E3 2019 presentation had solid Japanese developer representation, a nod to Elden Ring’s announcement.
It’s easy to understand why From Software fans are looking forward to the July Xbox Series X event, with Spencer’s comments in mind. However, they’re also so hungry for more Elden Ring news that it’s starting to get somewhat irrational. In a recent Xbox article about the upcoming event, the team says games will be featured including “updated looks at some of the games we’ve already revealed.” From Software fans are already leaping to conclusions.
The truth is that neither Xbox nor Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco have made an official announcement regarding Elden Ring being showcased either this summer or specifically at the Xbox Series X July event. While there’s no harm in the possibility of Elden Ring making an appearance, fans should maintain some skepticism, as well.
That said, the Xbox Series X July event will is certain to be a great show regardless of whether Elden Ring makes an appearance or not. The show starts on Thursday, July 23 at 9:00 am PT/12 pm ET. Microsoft has said that it expects the show to be around one hour long
Elden Ring is currently in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
