Originally released on PlayStation 4 in June 2019, followed by a PC release via Steam this past January, action-adventure platformer, Effie - from developer and publisher Inverge Studios - will soon be making its debut on the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

In an announcement posted on Twitter, the studio stated that the game will eventually launch on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch with the help of Klabator, which is an indie-focused production and publishing company. No official release date was revealed, noting that the game will be “coming soon” to the two new platforms.

Effie is a 3D action-adventure title that combines platforming mechanics with combat action and puzzles that fans of the genre will be immediately familiar with. Players take on the role of Galand, who - while old-looking - is in fact a young man who is on an adventure to regain his youth after being put under an aging curse by an evil witch. On his journey, his magical shield aids in both his abilities in combat against the evil creatures he encounters, as well as traveling, as the shield can double as a hoverboard-like contraption that allows Galand to move about the land at high speeds.

It’s clear that Effie follows the formula of other classic platforming games that it was inspired by, including Ratchet and Clank, Spyro, and Crash Bandicoot (just to name a few). Though the game holds a middle-of-the-road rating on Metacritic, Steam users apparently enjoy it enough to warrant an overall user rating of “Positive.”

Effie doesn’t necessarily seem to do anything groundbreaking for the genre, but the shield surfing component just seems like it would be a ton of fun to play for older and younger gamers alike. The game already has the look and feel of a Switch game specifically, so it should feel right at home on Nintendo’s portable console.
