Dang it, Ed Boon. Stop toying with us and just let us know what in heckola is going on with those DLC characters for Mortal Kombat 11.

Now, as we all know, it’s not easy to keep a secret in the gaming industry these days. Rabid leakers and dataminers are lurking in the bushes outside developers’ offices everywhere, just waiting to discover something juicy and share it with the world. Remember when dataminers found supposed evidence of all those games that were considered for the ill-fated PlayStation Classic? That made us feel even worse about the system (when nobody thought they could).

Remember when Nintendo got all copyright strike-y when those leaked copies of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate were floating around early? This is why we can’t have nice things, because the internet will spoil them for us. If you didn’t go to see Avengers: Endgame the second it was released, you essentially had to swear off social media entirely until you got yourself to the theater. We just love ruining things for each other.

On those miraculous occasions that secrets do remain secrets around here, then, you can’t really blame people for wanting to tease us a little. Especially not when one of those people is Ed Boon. Is he just going to reveal who the DLC kombatants of Mortal Kombat 11 are going to be? Of course he isn’t. First, he’s got to tell us that he might be about to tell us… maybe.

Yep, it’s cryptic (or should we say kryptic) game developer tweet time again. Feast your eyes on this little missive from Boon:

Yes, we knew that Shang Tsung was on board, but who’s joining him? That’s anybody’s guess. The fact that there’ll be a reveal next week if all goes well doesn’t sound all that encouraging either. Still, at least he’s being a little more candid than Hideo Kojima, whose inexplicable tweets about the upcoming Death Stranding are as enigmatic as an enigmatic thing indeed.

Regardless, it’s worth staying tuned. Mortal Kombat has had some super interesting DLC characters (from across the franchise and outside of it) in past entries, after all.
