Echoes of Aeons is a title that mobile gamers have been patiently waiting for over the past 8 years. The developer — Alchimia Studios — has billed it as a “retro-modern 2D action RPG,” and it aims to combine the best aspects of early RPG games with the modern conveniences we’ve come to know and love.
The biggest departure from old-school RPGs is in the combat system, which takes place in real-time and is surprisingly hectic. Its art style is also unique, opting for hand-painted animations instead of the usual 8-bit graphics. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but certainly makes it stand out in the marketplace.
The narrative of Echoes of Aeons is the driving force of all the action and is expectedly nuanced. Players will set out on a journey that “challenge(s) destiny in an epic tale of time and space, love, laughter, the human condition, and those who seek to destroy existence.” The game’s official website goes into a bit more detail about the story, but it sounds like this is going to be a sprawling mobile title with plenty to discover during the 20+ hours of playtime.
Echoes of Aeons will be available for iOS on April 30. It’s a premium title that costs $4.99, with no microtransactions in sight. There’s no word on an Android release, but we hope to see a port if it does well on the App Store.
