Overwatch’s newest hero, Echo, will go live on all platforms on April 14th. The high-flying DPS is the 32nd hero to be added to the game, and she’s been playable in the public test region (PTR) since March 19.
Players who want to try her out on PTR before she hits the live scene will find that Echo’s primary shot fires a spray of three slow-moving bullets. Her secondary fire is a volley of six Sticky Bombs, which attach to enemies or obstacles and detonate after a brief period of time. The Sticky Bombs do area-of-effect damage and can be attached to multiple characters if fired properly. Echo’s toolkit also includes her Focusing Beam, which deals massive amounts of damage to enemies under half health or less. This makes Echo great for finishing off escaping opponents or mowing down obstacles like barriers and Mei’s Ice Wall.
In addition to those skills, Echo’s movement ability is Flight, which launches her around the map in whatever direction she was previously moving. In comparison to other flying heroes like Pharah or Mercy, Echo’s movement gives her much greater horizontal momentum in exchange for a faster descent.
Echo’s ultimate ability, Duplicate, allows her to choose any hero on the opposing team and play as them for 15 seconds. Echo has access to that character’s ultimate ability, which has a 650 percent charge gain for Duplicate’s duration. This means an industrious Echo player can get multiple Pulse Bombs or god forbid, Molten Cores in one Duplicate activation. And before anyone tries to get tricky: no, Echo can’t duplicate another Echo.
While Echo’s launch will doubtless shake up the Overwatch ecosystem, players might be pleased to know that Echo is likely the last playable character to be added to Overwatch until Overwatch 2, the game’s “sequel,” is released.
