With E3 2017 having concluded about a week and a half ago, gamers are still processing all of the titles revealed during each of the showcases, as well as every bit of information about the games at the event that has been uncovered following the expo. While fans are still wrapping their heads around all that was unveiled at the event, though, the E3 2017 Game Critics Awards have now officially announced the nominees for this year’s honors, with Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and Middle-earth: Shadow of War leading the pack with four nominations apiece, including Best of Show.
Following Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus’ reveal during Bethesda’s keynote address at E3 2017, it seems as if critics have practically been fawning over the forthcoming title, as it has been nominated for Best of Show, Best Console Game, Best PC Game, and Best Action Game. As a matter of fact, we here at Game Rant walked away impressed with the first-person shooter, too, as we put it among some of the best games at this year’s conference in Los Angeles, California.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle also won over critics at E3 2017, with the turn-based strategy game featuring both Mario and Rabbids characters and its XCOM-like gameplay being up for Best of Show, Best Original Game, Best Console Game, and Best Strategy Game. Middle-earth: Shadow of War turned heads at the event as well, as the Lord of the Rings-inspired title from Monolith and Warner Bros. Interactive has been nominated for Best of Show, Best Console Game, Best PC Game, and Best Action/Adventure Game.
Obviously, there are a plethora of other games that were featured during E3 2017 that have been nominated for this year’s Game Critics Awards too, with the likes of Assassin’s Creed Origins, Super Mario Odyssey, Destiny 2, Days Gone, and more being honored. It’s worth noting that in order for games to have been eligible for nomination for the E3 2017 Game Critics Awards, titles had to be available to voting publications for at least five minutes of hands-on time during the event. Due to these stipulations, highly anticipated games like Anthem, Beyond Good and Evil 2, God of War, Spider-Man, and more were not considered to be in the running for the honors. Should these and other titles have offered an ample demo at this year’s show, they very well could have received a slew of nominations, too.
E3 2017’s Game Critics Awards winners will be announced on Wednesday, June 28, 2017.
