Arena brawlers are a dime a dozen these days, with plenty of forgettable titles that never really figure out their identity. Dumb as Wizards - from indie game developer and publisher Random Dragon Games - hopes to avoid that same fate when the game makes the jump from Steam Early Access to full release next month.
Thankfully, as a game “focused on accessibility and fast-paced casual fun, compared to its more complex inspirations…,” it seems that Dumb as Wizards is coming into the arena brawler genre with a good head on its shoulders.
Up to four players can play in either local or online multiplayer action, taking on the role of wizards that can control things like fireballs, chickens, and even whales that can be tossed at the other players, all within the confines of an arena with disappearing sections; similar to how battle royale titles have constantly closing circles, Dumb as Wizards has a constantly closing arena, adding to the chaos of each match.
In fact, “Chaos” is the name of one of the game’s modes, granting players with a new spell/ability after each spell cast. Dumb as Wizards’ three other modes - which include “Defend the Eye”, “Roulette”, and ”Wizard Rumble” - are also available to players, offering up plenty of variety to keep gameplay fresh.
Dumb as Wizards seems like a whale of a good time. The game will be available for PC via Steam on July 24th.
