A fan-favorite companion out of Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dorian is a mage from Tevinter and a love-interest for male Inquisitors. Fans love him not only because he is the first male-to-male only romance character in the series, but also his snarky, clever, somewhat spoiled personality.
While it has not been plainly proven, there have been hints that Dorian will be in Dragon Age 4. After all, it has been released that the game will take place in Tevinter – Dorian’s homeland which he returned to after the events of Trespasser. Due to his popularity, there are plenty of Dragon Age memes about Dorian that float around the Internet.
9 Dorian As Bernie Sanders
The Bernie in mittens meme spread like wildfire since the United States inauguration in January 2021. Everyone just loved how bundled and slightly miserable he looked at what otherwise seemed an auspicious occasion. This meme has Dorian as Bernie in Emprise Du Lion, the coldest area in Inquisition. The joke takes a jab at how much Dorian dislikes the South.
He is used to Tevinter’s climate which typically skews warmer and is not used to the conditions of Orlais and Fereldan. He often acts like a miserable kid on his first camping trip in less than temperate conditions. He also cares a lot about fashion, so he rarely dresses based on the weather. In Emprise Du Lion, there is no doubt that he would be cold, despairing, and pleading for the Inquisitor to move on.
8 The South’s Questionable “Facilities”
This meme also pokes fun at Dorian’s high-class tastes. He often complains about Fereldan bathing habits and how everything smells like a wet dog. While there is no in-game comment on facilities, it is not hard to imagine how Dorian would react.
After the trailer for DA4, a lot of fans already have a better understanding of where Dorian comes from. Tevinter looks like a proto-cyberpunk city mixed with a Moroccan bizarre that uses magic in all things. In comparison, a lot of the locations in Inquisition probably used holes in the ground to use as bathrooms. Poor Dorian.
7 Getting Into Haven (Templars Helped)
If the player gets the Templars into the Inquisition instead of the mages, it is Dorian who rushes to Haven to warn the Inquisition about the coming red lyrium mages and Corypheus. This meme images how Dorian must have been while getting into Haven.
Much more so than Cole, Dorian was out of breath, overdramatic, and insistent. A lot was at stake, so this me is, in actuality, no stretch of the imagination. He was doing literally this.
6 Dorian Possibly Dying In DA4
As mentioned before, Dorian could be in the next Dragon Age game; many fans would be shocked if he wasn’t. However, there are a lot of unknowns as of yet. There is even a possibility of him being a companion as, traditionally, the games have always contained one companion from the previous title.
While many fans hope to see more Dorian, they are afraid that seeing more Dorian could lead to his death. The next game will not be sunshine and daisies; fighting for the fate of Thedas will certainly involve some casualties. Fans of the extended media such as the graphic novels also hope to see Dorian’s BFF Maevaris Tilani in DA4.
5 Romancing Dorian In Inquisition
While players often do multiple playthroughs and romance different characters, every player also clearly has their favorite. Along with Iron Bull and the Dread Wolf, Dorian is up there with the favorites. Some players can play multiple times, but cannot find the will to romance anyone other than their favorite.
Though female characters can flirt with him and he admittedly enjoys it, Dorian is only romantically available for male Inquisitors. Due to this, some players immediately made a male Inquisitor after beating Inquisition as a female Inquisitor.
4 “Other People Have Feelings?” Dorian, Probably
Dorian, like a lot of other Dragon Age characters, can be quite blunt. He does not mince his words for the comfort of others usually. He is passionate about change and does not like to waste his time beating around the bush. Though he has led a privileged life in Tevinter, he has also had his fair share of hardships and has been hardened by them to a degree.
If Dorian did care more about people’s feelings and agendas, it is likely that he never would have joined the Inquisition in the first place. Many of his countrymen viewed him as a traitor due to his actions, but he did not care. That is part of what players love about Dorian – he will go above and beyond to do what he feels is right.
3 Hiding From Solas
A headcanon many Lavellan players who romance Solas have is having a special friendship with Dorian. This is because Dorian’s favorite place in Skyhold is right above where Solas dwells. So it is likely that he hears a lot of what goes on between Solas and the Inquisitor.
Solas does break-up with Lavellan which makes things quite awkward between them. So this meme quite likely could have happened for real in Skyhold. It also goes without saying that Dorian clearly would have taken the Inquisitor’s side in the breakup.
2 Thirsting For Qunari
Dorian is one of the few characters who can actually end up in a romance with another character if they are not with the Inquisitor. That character is the Iron Bull – the Qunari Ben-Hassrath spy. As for Sera, she does not romance a Qunari unless a female Qunari Inquisitor decides to romance her. However, it is plain to see from the beginning that she really likes Qunari women.
As for the former Antivan Crow Zevran, he honestly thirsts for everyone. While you cannot play as a Qunari in Origins, he does openly talk about how attractive everyone is all the time.
1 Love And Affection
It is no secret that Dorian loves attention; he is not exactly humble on the surface. If he is called handsome, he will agree enthusiastically. But in his romance, he becomes a little more vulnerable with the Inquisitor. Even then though, he has a lot of pride and self-confidence(almost like he is using it as a defense mechanism…).
Rather than seeing this part of Dorian as dislikable, fans love it. Paired with this confidence is the fact that he’s a good and reasonable person despite his love of attention. He wants attention for the right reasons and always stays true to himself.
