Vivienne, a.k.a. Madame de Fer, is an Orlesian mage companion introduced in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Through her, players got to know more about the higher class of Orlais, as well as get another perspective on mage rights.

Madame Vivienne was quite different from previous mages like Morrigan, Anders, and Merrill in the fact that she is quite pro-Circle. This made her a little controversial among players as many have previously sided with the rebel mages in the Mage-Templar war.

Despite being a pretty serious character (she is no Sera or humorous Hawke), fans can still have fun with Vivienne in the form of memes. Just save them for a time other than on her spa days.

8 Militantly Pro-Circle Vivienne

Being pro-Circle makes Vivienne different from most mages players meet. Vivienne’s ideals actually match many of the teachings of the Templar order in that mages should be watched, guarded, and are dangerous if given too much freedom. That said, she isn’t the biggest fan of the Templar Order either. This meme highlights how Vivienne thinks differently from nearly every other mage met in the games.

One factor to consider is that Vivienne is a mage with a lot of privilege due to her talents in The Game. While other mages may have suffered from cruelties, she is one of the few who flourished in the Circle environment, climbing all the way to being the First Enchanter of Montsimmard, Enchanter to the Imperial Court of Orlais, AND Empress Celene’s advisor.

7 Vivienne And Dorian Laughing At Solas

Vivienne is one of three playable mage companions in Inquisition; the other two are Solas and Dorian. All three of them are quite different, but Vivienne and Dorian do bond over some things like fashion, food, and luxury. Both came from well-to-do city life and are used to attending parties, dressing in high-end fashion, and have a love of fine things.

Solas, on the other hand, does not really care for those things. Dorian and Vivienne constantly make fun of the way he dresses and have a laugh. They also note that his magic style is very different from their own. Read: different here means paltry, quaint, humble, cute (in the mean way), or, perhaps even, adorable. Again…in the mean way.

6 Vivienne Knows That Lavellan Deserves Better

In the Trespasser DLC, Solas is not around as he left Skyhold right after the defeat of Corypheus. If the player chose Lavellan as their Inquisitor and romanced him, a lot of the companions in Trespasser question them about their relationship with Solas.

Vivienne is one such companion and she asks if Lavellan still has feelings for Solas during a little spa day in Orlais. It is up to the player how Lavellan responds which may depend on their previous relationship with the pro-Circle mage. No matter what the player chooses, Vivienne can be supportive despite never being a fan of Solas herself.

5 The Three Mages

While Vivienne and Dorian sometimes get along, there are many times that they do not. If all three mages are taken on quests together, they often argue with each other on anything and everything.

Solas and Vivienne can pick on Dorian for being from Tevinter. Dorian and Solas and pick on Vivienne for being pro-Circle. Individuals can constantly make jabs at each other – even getting as petty as how they cast their spells. So this meme from The Office of the three-way “handgun” standoff is pretty legitimate for what traveling with the three mages of the Inquisition can feel like.

4 When She Calls You “My Dear”

Players either love or hate how Vivienne addresses many characters as “my dear.” Some find it sweet while others find it condescending. Obviously, this meme reflects the feelings of a fan who loves it when Vivienne says “my dear.” Vivienne’s habit of saying “my dear” likely comes from her experiences in The Game that comes from high-class Orlesian culture.

The Game is basically a social and political Cold War that is constantly happening between high-class citizens. Every word can be a weapon, so they are chosen very carefully and can often come across as passive-aggressive. It may be a case that Vivienne started off ironically calling the Inquisitor “my dear” and then came to mean it sincerely.

3 Vivienne Just Straight Sassing

There is no character in the world of Dragon Age who is safe from Vivenne’s sassing. If she could be condensed into three character traits, they would be couture, power, and brutal sass. While cleverness and wit are common traits in Dragon Age characters, Vivienne’s brand of sass is distinctive.

For one, it is less chaotic than the same trait from other characters. She delivers her sass flatly and does have her favorite companions to sass. These companions include Sera for her uncouth, anti-upper-class ways, and Solas. Of course, these characters do not exactly treat her with respect and are happy to sass her, as well.

2 Laughing At Solas…Again

Like the wolf meme, this meme also illustrates the dynamic between Vivienne, Dorian, and Solas. They do both literally call him “unwashed” and “hobo” to his face. Players are big fans of Dorian and Vivienne bonding over Solas’s lack of fashion sense as seen in many memes such as this one.

This meme even fits a little better as the man who is Solas in this meme is wearing an ugly Christmas sweater. There’s nothing quite like dunking on someone to really bring people together.

1 Vivienne Does Not Get Nor Like Cole

If there is one companion that Vivienne cannot stand, it is the walking spirit/human hybrid Cole. In all her banters with him, she acts pretty cruelly despite his innocent personality. This is because she sees him as a demon and abomination that can act unpredictably.

So, this meme of someone in a fursuit and a scared dog is a good symbol of what Vivienne and Cole’s relationship is like. Despite her dislike of Cole, he still tries to connect with her on various occasions. He is a spirit of compassion after all, but Vivienne remains skeptical.
