At the 2020 Game Awards, Dragon Age fans were overjoyed to see another teaser of the upcoming new game. While it is predicted to still take about two years for the Dragon Age 4 to reach completion, a lot was revealed in the short teasers’ imagery.
Fans have many conclusions as well as juicy theories as to what the teaser revealed about their next adventure in Thedas. Fans of the series have a talent for connecting the dots between the lore, books, and games.
10 Varric’s Return
A solid conclusion to the teaser was the return of everyone’s favorite beardless dwarf, Varric. Like the typical storyteller he is, he is the narrator of the teaser trailer. He frames the story that Thedas needs a new hero.
“I got your back,” is among Varric’s lines, which hints that he will help the new hero in the next game one way or another.
9 The Figures In Solas’ New mural
Solas has a talent for making murals, and they offer much in terms of hidden meaning of what is to come. Fans have immediately recognized that the dread wolf mural introduces two figures on each side.
Fans have theorized that these figures are likely Evanuris, ancient elf gods that Solas locked away in the Fade. By tearing down the Fade, he will likely release these powerful beings in Dragon Age 4.
8 Cyberpunk Tevinter
The teaser gave fans a look at Tevinter, and it is as amazing as the books and characters describe. The buildings are quite gothic, but have a cyberpunk twist due to the magic used by the society.
In the sky is even a floating building. Fans have theorized that this could be the Tevinter Circle Tower, as it is in the shape of the icon for the Circle Tower faction.
7 Grey Warden Boots
Dragon Age fans are very familiar with Grey Wardens and their gear. In the teaser, there is a scene of a characters’ boots facing a herd of creatures. Most believe that these boots are Grey Warden gear. The area around even seems to resemble what has been described as the Anderfels.
Being in the Anderfels would make sense if this was indeed a Grey Warden, as the southern Anderfels is the location of the Grey Warden main fortress: Weisshaupt.
6 Factions
More and more is hinting that the fourth game will re-introduce origin stories. The teaser further seemed to lead to that conclusion by showing many factions throughout Thedas. It is possible that like Dragon Age Origins, the fourth game will have a sort of prologue for the player depending on their faction choice.
As to what these factions could be, there are many possibilities. The biggest hint fans have to work with is that the new hero has no prophecy and is not a “chosen one.”
5 Fade Magic Bow
Among the scenes from the trailer is a woman shooting a bow in an area that appears to be corrupted with red lyrium. Her bow is especially unique. The green colors are like that of Fade magic, which players got to see a lot of in Inquisition.
This could hint towards a certain faction or possibly a new companion.
4 Hints Of Red Lyrium
Since its reveal in Dragon Age 2, red lyrium has been a major plot point in the franchise. In the teaser, red lyrium is hinted everywhere. Fans look for the color red in Solas’ murals, and most agree that the red colors symbolize red lyrium. This is especially interesting when fans noticed the Dread Wolf’s fangs are red in the new mural. That may not be blood, but red lyrium.
3 Anitva City With Magical Palace
Besides Tevinter, the teaser showed what most believe to be Antiva. IF the buildings and palace were not convincing enough, the teaser also included an Antivan Crow hanging out on one of the rooftops.
An element that has attracted much interest is the palace itself. It is glowing with some kind of magic. One theory is that this magic could be a defense against the oncoming qunari armies.
2 Callback To Meredith And Corypheus
The beginning of the trailer showed a mural of Meredith and Corypheus, previous antagonists of the series. While some fans were already pretty convinced, this further proves that Solas is connected to these two villains. The connection is in the powerful objects they misused. Those were ancient elvhan artifacts, ones that he knows far more about than the players or the common people of Thedas.
1 Solas’ New Design
Of course the trailer shows Solas himself. His design is a bit revamped, and fans have had mixed opinions about the new look. Many have jokingly said he looks like handsome Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants while others have reflected that he looks miserable.
Ever since the end of Inquisition, fans were pretty convinced that Solas would be the main villain of the fourth title. The teaser is further pushing on this point.
