The Dragon Age series has remained one of the most popular among RPG fans since its original game Dragon Age: Origins. Though many characters have stolen (or broken) our hearts, fans hotly anticipate any news about the next game in the series yet to be titled. Though some concept art was revealed recently, most fans still have many questions after the events of the most recent game. There are many loose ends regarding the Templars, the mages, elves, Tevinter, and more. But what about the Inquisition itself?
So many choices can impact the future of the group: whether the player chose to disband it, who became Divine, the fate of the Grey Wardens; the list goes on. Though some fans have theories, Bioware has not meted out much information about post-Inquisition events beyond the epilogue of the game. These are the top questions fans still have about the Inquisition.
That’s not unlike how DA4 will feel after the sweeping, monumental story of Inquisition. Of course, that means that there are still many more questions left to answer in the next game.
15 What Will Happen To Skyhold?
Skyhold, majestic and imposing, stood as the home and symbol of the Inquisition once Haven got totally obliterated by Corypheus and his goons. From Solas’ murals to the mystery of how Cullen got his bed up that rickety ladder, it holds many fond memories for most Dragon Age fans.
But even if the Inquisition doesn’t disband, it may be taken by or given to the Chantry, Templars, Mages, or even the Seekers as Cassandra rebuilds them. Solas’ agents infiltrated the Inquisition already, so they know the ins and outs of Skyhold. What’s to stop them from booby-trapping the place or just simply sabotaging the Inquisition all over again? Some fans believe Skyhold can no longer house the Inquisition, so that begs the question of what will become of it in the next game.
14 Will The Divine Support The Inquisition’s Future Efforts?
Most players will remember that they had the option of getting one of three Divines: Cassandra, Vivienne, or Leliana (hardened or soft). All of them took hugely different approaches to how they led the Chantry, rebuilt the Templars, treated mages, etc.
But they also all had different attitudes toward the Inquisition. Leliana offers the most insights as Divine when she openly supports your decision to operate the Inquisition as a shadow group to avoid more espionage from the Qunari or Solas’ agents. Beyond that, it’s a bit of a blind spot.
13 Will The Lineage Of Inquisitor Ameridan Come Back Into Play?
The DLC Jaws of Hakkon was not Bioware’s finest work. It had many a fetch quest, some repetitive landscapes, and only a few big moments that expanded the lore. One of those moments involved the first Inquisitor: Ameridan. He also happened to be an elf mage with a Dreamer for a girlfriend.
Though this could have been “busy work” for fans, Bioware could leverage the information somewhere down the line. Or it could come up in terms of elves and humans banding together toward a common goal which could help in the fight against Solas.
12 Will The Remains Of The Inquisition Seek To Undo Tranquility With The Seekers?
By now, every fan knows that the Rite of Tranquility (or the process of severing a mage’s connection to The Fade) is reversible. Thanks to Cassandra’s personal quest and a big tome of Seeker secrets, fans learned that Seekers undergo the Rite of Tranquility, but then have it reversed to get their powers and abilities.
Since Seekers know this process and Cassandra seeks to rebuild them after Dragon Age: Inquisition, will the Seekers and what remains of the Inquisition work together to help Tranquils who wish to regain their connection to The Fade?
11 Did The Inquisition Share Its Information About Lyrium Titans?
With the events of The Descent DLC, Shaper Valta showed players a lyrium Titan and, potentially, a type of Dwarven magic. Though she disappeared afterward, the Inquisitor noted how staggering a revelation this could be for Dwarven culture. Does this mean that the Inquisition shared this information with the Chantry, the Grey Wardens, or other entities around Thedas?
Given how enigmatic and secretive the Dwarves are, a diplomatic Inquisitor would likely not have done that. But with any of the Divine options (Leliana, Cassandra, or Vivienne), that information is already in the Chantry’s hands. This has left many fans wondering if it will be leveraged in the next game.
10 How Involved With The Red Jennies Will The Inquisitor Be (If The Player Chose To Join Them?)
Sera was never an agreeable girl, but the Inquisitor got the option to join her and the other Red Jennies to help average folks around Thedas. Even if the Inquisitor didn’t get the option, Sera presumably still operates in Fereldan cells. There are also cells all around Thedas including in the Free Marches, Tevinter, Antiva, and more.
With the next game taking place outside of Orlais and Ferelden (most likely), fans are wondering if the Red Jennies, and by proxy the Inquisition, will pop up or if a team character will be associated with the group.
9 Will The Inquisition Go To Weisshaupt?
In Dragon Age: Inquisition, players could choose to disband the Grey Wardens, exile them, or absorb them into Inquisition ranks. Either way, players had to choose very specific War Table missions to ensure that the ones you did recruit didn’t get wiped out completely.
Given the amount of corruption fans saw in the last game, many have wondered where Grey Warden leadership has been this whole time. Even Blackwall/Thom Ranier (who does have some knowledge of the group despite not actually joining) says that the Wardens at Weisshaupt are aloof at best. What remains of the Inquisition could go to Weisshaupt or, perhaps more likely, send a ragtag group of recruits from Tevinter there instead.
8 Where Will The New Inquisition HQ Be?
Almost every person in Thedas, regardless of interests, knows exactly where Skyhold thanks to the efforts of merchants and the enterprising Ambassador Montilyet. But that amount of notoriety doesn’t make Skyhold a great option for underground operations or guarding against espionage.
The Trespasser DLC showed players how easily Solas’ agents infiltrated the Inquisition (on top of Qunari spies). So, whether the player chose to keep the Inquisition together or disband it, it stands to reason that they’ll need a new headquarters. Where in Thedas might that be?
7 Will The Well Of Sorrows Factor Into Solas’ Plan?
Those who finished the base Dragon Age: Inquisition game know that Flemeth/Mythal “died” when Solas absorbed her power (or something). They also know that either Morrigan or the Inquisitor drank from the Well of Sorrows and became bound to carry out Mythal’s will.
Mythal has “died” a few times before, but even if it sticks this time around, the goddess’ will could still be carried out posthumously by her servants. That means that the Inquisitor or Morrigan could interfere with Solas’ plan even if they don’t originally plan on it. The questions are how and when.
6 Will The Inquisition Recruit The Tevinter Crew From Dragon Age 4 Concept Art?
With a large reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2020, Dragon Age fans everywhere got their first real hints at what the story in Dragon Age 4 might involve. It clearly takes place in Tevinter at some points and may even have an underwater section.
But we don’t see anything that hints at the Inquisition being involved really. Still, however the group is operating (insurgent style or large entity), the Inquisition could work to recruit this new band of unlikely teammates. It would cohere with the plotline of challenging Solas’ plan to undo all known reality, but only time (and further reveals) will tell.
5 Will Wynne Join The Inquisition?
It was a bit unclear whether or not Wynne was an abomination in the same vein as Cole or Anders at the end of Origins. She must still be alive, however, because codex entries mention her as a member of the Aequitarians. Regardless, her own son Rhys plays an important role in Cole’s story and the story in Dragon Age: Asunder elaborates on his and her story, and others.
The working theory is that, due to the events of Asunder, Wynne died to protect people since one of her abilities allows her to sacrifice her own life force to do so. But she could have been at the Conclave or even out in some remote locale helping young mages cope with their power. The question remains and it may not ever be answered.
4 How Many Eluvians Does/Did The Inquisition Control?
Solas does gain control of the Eluvian network that Briala once possessed during Trespasser. But the Inquisition still has a couple of the mysterious Elven mirrors under their control since they use them to fight back against Solas and the Qunari. But how many did they have or do they still possess?
Given their resources and each individual Divine’s predilections toward power or safety, it’s safe to say that whatever Eluvians the Inquisition did control would remain in their control. That is unless Solas somehow bricks them, but it is unclear if he can do that. For now, fans guess that the Inquisition possesses anywhere from 2 - 5 Eluvians.
3 Templars Or Grey Wardens “Disbanding” Or Assimilating?
This is, admittedly, an unfocused question, but it still bears asking. Players will know that the Inquisitor could recruit, assimilate, and/or disband the Templars, Grey Wardens, and even the Rebel Mages. But, for the sake of the story in DA4, the Wardens and Templars being disbanded or part of the Inquisition is of greater importance.
If the Inquisition did really assimilate the group in question, what happens to them when the Inquisition disbands? It’s a bit of an ingenious fix to the quandary for the developers really. A disbanded Inquisition can allow for a reinstated Templar or Warden entity to crop up under Divine Victoria’s oversight.
In contrast, a more powerful Inquisition can oversee the order’s reinstatement just the same. We don’t need to ask about the Mages because it’s Dragon Age; there will always be Mages.
2 Will Orlais’ Ruler Fall If The Inquisition Does?
Though the events of Trespasser take place well after the new ruler of Orlais is placed, the question is a valid one. Whether players chose to stick with Empress Celene, install a puppet for Briala, empower the militaristic Gaspard, or found a way to get all three to compromise, will that ruler’s power hold once the Inquisition is gone?
On the other hand, if the Inquisition is assimilated as part of the Divine’s bureaucracy, the Game may yet take over once more. This would render any ruler vulnerable to usurpation or assassination.
1 Why Did The Inquisitor Recruit Cullen?
So, this is a retroactive question since Cullen obviously is a canon and non-optional advisor (and possible romance) for the Inquisitor. But the guy went on a mage-killing spree between Origins and DA2. Even if he reformed his ways after what happened in Kirkwall, that’s not a reputation you can just wipe away.
Most fans attribute his recruitment to a few things: many things in Origins have been contradicted, his character model is very similar to the one used for Alistair, and his connection to Sampson. His arc with lyrium addiction also opens up an eerily timely connection to the opioid crisis, as well.
But so many other characters could have been used and given the Inquisition more unique connections. Fenris, Alistair (pending player choices of course), Aveline, or even Oghren would have made worthwhile military advisors. That’s just considering things from a companion perspective and not branching out to secondary and tertiary characters.
