As fans wait for Dragon Age 4, theories about the Evanuris have spread like wildfire. They are the elvhen gods, but were revealed to be much more complex when Solas spilled some of his ancient knowledge to the Inquisitor in the Trespasser DLC.
According to him, the Evanuris are not gods but incredibly powerful beings. Like the lore of the Dread Wolf, he did indeed seal them away.
However, now he plans to undo what he did thousands of years ago. Does this mean the Evanuris are going to return? Solas said he “has plans” for them. With his sort of record of successful plans though, many fans are worried. While there is still so much we don’t know, there are some facts about the Evanuris worth knowing before Dragon Age 4 comes out.
10 There Are Nine Of Them In Total
If the Evanuris include every single elvhen god, then there are nine of them. This would include Mythal, Fen’Harel, June, Andruil, Falon’Din, Sylaise, Dirthamen, Ghilan’nain, and Elgar’nan.
Solas locked away many of the Evanuris in the Fade. If they are as powerful as he and Flemeth, then releasing them can have deadly ramifications.
9 Dirthamen And Falon’Din Are Known As “Twin Souls”
Two of the Evanuris are Dirthamen, the god of secrets and knowledge and Falon’Din, the god of death and fortune. According to elvhen lore, they are neither family nor friends or lovers, but have “twin souls.” In fact, the oldest stories about them never refer to them directly by name but as “Dirthamen’s shadow,” and “Falon’Din’s reflection.”
As for what this means, fans can only wonder.
8 Elgar’nan May Have Driven The Dwarves Underground
Known as the god of the sun and vengeance, Elgar’nan is one of the more talked-about members of the elvhen pantheon. According to the Dalish, he is why dwarves fear the sun.
Details are obscure, but this was revealed in the Trespasser DLC in a torn notebook from the Deep Roads. The writer ponders why there are murals of elves underground, and wonders if the Dalish legend is a metaphor for elves driving dwarves underground.
7 Andruil Hunted Mortals As Well As Animals
Andruil is a goddess of hunting. However, her lore has a bit of a dark side. She is also known as a goddess of sacrifice and killed mortals as well as animals.
This is revealed in an ancient script from a ruin in the Arbor Wilds. Her followers would pray to her to never hunt them.
6 Andruil Might Have Brought The Blight To Thedas
Not only was she a frightening hunter, but Andruil has a story that hints towards interacting with something akin to the Blight. The story has Andruil hunt the Forgotten Ones in the Abyss. On her journey, she went mad.
She brought what could only be described as “plague” to her lands. How it is described reminded many fans of the taint that comes with Blights. As for what the Abyss is, that is another unsolved mystery of the Dragon Age universe. It is believed to be where the Forgotten Ones are sealed, which are simply known as enemies of the Evanuris.
5 Mythal Was An Evanuris
While this was an obvious fact any fan who played Inquisition knows, it leads to many implications. If Flemeth is Mythal and Mythal is an Evanuris, then they likely have many of the same powers.
This means Evanuris, like Mythal, do not really die and can possess hosts. This may be why Solas saw it fit to seal them away rather than to try to kill them. Like her, they may also be able to shapeshift.
4 They Murdered Mythal
The reason the Evanuris were sealed in the first place was that they murdered Mythal. Solas mentions this to the Inquisitor in Trespasser. However, a lot of details are yet to be unveiled. Was it really all of them that killed her? Why? How?
Whatever the case may be, a wisp of Mythal now resides in Flemeth and she seems to have plans of her own that fans have yet to see from to fruition. What is known is that Mythal was the kindest and most benevolent of the Evanuris (at least according to Solas).
3 Ghilan’nain Created Monsters
The mother of halla and goddess of navigation, Ghilan’nain may seem like a peaceful and innocent goddess at first. However, according to Dalish lore, she created far more than just halla. She created all sorts of monsters for Andruil to hunt. It is believed she stopped and just kept her halla and sea monsters later on.
Based on the Evanuris reveal, fans have theorized that Ghilan’nain may be more sinister than lore dictates. In fact, she may have created monsters by sacrificing people. One such monster she may have created are the Varterral.
2 June Seldom Appears In Lore
Among the Evanuris, June is the least talked about. In fact, a codex about him in Inquisition mentions how June is a bit of an outlier among the elvhen pantheon. The codex shares that oldest depiction found of June had nothing Dalish associated with him.
This could mean something about June himself, or it is just another case of elvhen culture being lost to time.
1 Many Were Cruel, And Likely Experimented On Their Subjects
All the hidden facts about the Evanuris lead up to this. If they were the ones who drove dwarves underground, created monsters, and killed Mythal, then they are cruel.
Outside of script and banters, the ancient elvhen murals produce pretty frightening images that make one wonder what the Evanuris really did with all their power.
