Dorian was introduced in Dragon Age: Inquisition as its first male-only romance companion. He won the hearts of many players through both his romance story, as well as his friendship.
Hailing from the Tevinter Imperium, he also came from a culture that fans were only familiar with through Fenris, provided they’ve played Dragon Age 2. However, Dorian’s life was one of privilege instead of slavery. He spends a lot of time in Inquisition learning about how others see his homeland and obtaining a powerful resolve to change Tevinter for the better.
Being a fan favorite, there is plenty of fan art of Dorian, as well. Fans are predicting that this mage will show up again in Dragon Age 4, which has caused a reawakening for his dedicated fans online.
10 Magic Snake
If you view a lot of Dorian fan art, it is easy to notice he is often drawn with snake symbols. This is due to his tarot cards from Inquisition, all of which have snakes in them. Fans have concluded this is because like a snake, Dorian has a poor reputation due to being from Tevinter.
The art was done by Eristhe from the United Kingdom. According to the art description, this piece was actually made for a Dragon Age fan contest.
9 Books And Magic
Done by Ymirr, this fan art looks like Dorian is in combat. It is difficult to tell what kind of magic he is using, but it sure looks awesome.
As a mage, Dorian is skilled in the art of necromancy. It is a branch of magic players didn’t really know anything about until Dorian came around in Inquisition. More and more has been revealed though through Dragon Age books, such as Tevinter Nights, about how necromancy works in Thedas.
8 Snake And Skull
Once again, here is a piece of fan art with the snake symbol. Dorian is also often drawn with skulls, which is symbolic of his necromancy. If all three of these tarot cards are examined, they all bear the snake symbol, and fans have done some pretty amazing analysis of what the symbol means in each card.
This piece was made by Bory-Einfrost. According to them, this fan art was a birthday gift for a friend.
7 Reading With Peacocks
The artist, sandara, actually did a breakdown of the various symbols in this fan art. The peacocks exist because Dorian’s last name is Pavus, which is Latin for peacock. The infinity symbol above Dorian represents his tarot card: The Magician. Lastly, the black snakes are the symbol of Tevinter. Peacocks certainly suite Dorian, as he is a man of high-quality tastes and has a sense of fashion.
6 Necromancy
That skull staff looks like it was made for necromancy magic. Once again, there are also snakes, as it looks like one is designed under the base of the skull. In the background, it looks like spirits of the Fade are watching.
This piece was actually made for a Dragon Age calendar project, and it was done by KuroCyou.
5 Tarot Art
There is an interesting story behind this Dorian piece. It was made by Ravietta and can be found in a special fan-made Dorian art book called Fortitudo. All the profits the book made were split between the National Center for Lesbian Rights and the Russian LGBT Network.
This artist wasn’t the only artist, as there were more than 40 who contributed to the book! It goes to show how much of an impact Dorian had as a character to fans.
4 Modern Dorian
Fan artists love to translate characters from fantasy settings into modern ones, and this take of Dorian has a lot of cool details going on. Once again, there is a snake and skull symbol to stand for his art of necromancy and roots in Tevinter. It is clever to use those symbols as a tattoo for him. Also, his phone case as a minor Inquisition symbol!
The art was done by maXKennedy. They also do fan art of The Walking Dead, Mad Max, Doctor Who, and The Hobbit.
3 Concept Art Inspired
This image may look odd to those who never saw Dorian’s concept art. The art was done, once again, by Ymirr and they were inspired by Dorian’s concept art to make this.
This outfit, staff, and even the monkey is from old concept art. It has made fans wonder if Dorian was going to have a pet monkey at some point. That does sound like a pet an upper-class gentleman from Tevinter might have in his possession.
2 Lilies
The artist, Smooshkin, titled this piece as “Heartache” and wrote “Dorian is important. When he pours out his heart, out spills liquid gold.” A beautiful and deep sentiment to go with this fan art.
The flowers growing out of Dorian appear to be lilies, which has a lot of symbols associated with them. They can mean devotion, purity, fertility, good luck, and more. The artist also did a similar piece for Blackwall.
1 Red Lyrium
Behind this art is a major Dorian fan, lorandesore. This fan art is one of many pieces of Dorian they have drawn. In a tumblr post with a bunch of old Dorian art they have done, they wrote, “I want to draw him again and again.” Dorian would certainly approve; he has never been shy about his outward appearance.
