Doom Eternal has been available for well over a month now and it’s been incredibly well-received. Everything from the game’s first-person action to its epic story have been lauded. But while fans and id Software are still celebrating Doom Eternal’s successes, they’re also both looking forward to what comes next. To that effect, id Software has put out a new teaser featuring two screenshots from what id claims to be Doom Eternal’s first upcoming campaign DLC.
In a tweet coming from the official Doom Twitter account, the message shared reads “sneak peak [sic] screenshots from our first upcoming DLC.” Attached are two very interesting screenshots, each of a new environment previously unseen in the Doom universe. The first shows a fortress of sorts on a planet with floating debris. The second shows a sort of futuristic oil rig above an ocean or sea. Both are exactly the kinds of environments Doom fans are going to want to visit.
No further details regarding the upcoming Doom Eternal DLC were provided. Fans will have to use their imaginations if they want more context for each of the images. It can be assumed that epic battles certainly await, at the very least.
The reveal of Doom Eternal’s first campaign DLC came just ahead of an update from id Software regarding a major patch. Update 1 is currently being prepared for Doom Eternal for all platforms. The update will mix both new content as well as optimizations. Update 1 will not coincide with the Year One Pass’ story campaign DLC, with information on that coming later this year.
Content confirmed for Update 1 includes the addition of Empowered Demons for Doom Eternal’s single-player campaign. These are demons who one killed the player, transported to a different part of the game and strengthened. Battlemode will also be receiving Echelon Leveling for players already at the max level, as well as a new Death Report screen.
id Software’s plans for Doom Eternal post-launch are much more substantial than those for the 2016 Doom. Update 1, the campaign DLC, and all other Year One Pass plans show just how big those plans are. Expect more information about Doom Eternal’s upcoming content in the weeks and months to come.
Doom Eternal is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
